Finished this one off last night while cooking supper. It was quite nostalgic and familiar, though it did take me a moment to place what exactly it was reminding me of. Because the hibiscus, apple, cinnamon, and almond were definitely the strongest flavours I think it was kind of channeling DT’s Sleigh Ride (much less tart, though) but crossed with the marzipan-like and slightly floral taste of Alpine Punch.

Pretty generically “Euro Christmas” feeling but not in a bad way. Just more so the kind of profile I feel is somewhat more easily accessible??

Compagnie & Co Day 6

Steepster has been super slow these last couple days, to the point that I couldn’t post this note last evening. We’ll probably be dealing with this for the rest of the weekend at least.

Day 6 is another rooibos. I can’t say the inclusion of apple and hibiscus fills me with anticipation. I steeped the 2 g sachet in 250 ml of 190F water for 3, 5, and 7 minutes.

The dry aroma is of cinnamon, orange, and apple. The tag fell off the string of the teabag as I was putting it into the cup, so I had to fish it out with a spoon. The first steep leads with cinnamon, followed by orange, apple, some tartness from the hibiscus, lemon, and almond. The tea is quite sweet and a little cloying. The almond and orange are more pronounced as the tea cools. I’m not sure what verbena is supposed to taste like, though I think it’s lemony as well. The apple and tart hibiscus take over a bit more in steep two, though the cinnamon is still there. Most of the tartness disappears in the final steep, leaving this as an apple cinnamon tea with some almond.

This feels like a more sophisticated version of Constant Comment that has a bit too much going on. It’s also rather too sweet for me. I was wondering whether they included something like stevia, but the sweetness is probably attributable to the apple. Either way, this tea was pleasant but not a favourite.

Advent Day 21

I didn’t think I was going to like this one! I saw hibiscus in the ingredients and groaned, but figured I’d be a good sport and try it anyway. It has an apple cider scent. The taste is a mix between apple pie and apple cider. The hibiscus was actually used in an appropriate amount to make the flavor of the apple slightly tart! It looses a little something as it cools and has a slightly dry mouthfeel in the finish. Another one I wish I could try cold steeped. I would be willing to drink this again, which is a rare sentiment for something that has hibiscus!

Another of their holiday blends!

This is quite nice – a very mellow mix of sweet candy cinnamon, gently herbaceous lemon balm and verbena, and subtly bright orange. There’s something slightly cookie-y about it as well, perhaps it’s the almond mentioned in the description. It’s just a hint though.

I like it more and more as I sip. I would consider ordering some of this, but I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to make an order just to get some. We’ll see if there are any other teas I end up wanting once I’m finished with this advent. :)
