Sipdown (3067)!
Over the years I’ve had quite a few cacao shell teas, both plain and flavoured or in blends. They can be really incredible or just okay, but very rarely are they bad. This one did not start off on a good foot, though. The shells are so, so incredibly fine and powdery. More so than any of the previous cacao teas I’ve tried (at least that I can remember). That’s especially disappointing because this is just straight up cacao…
Steeped up it does have a fairly nice and thick mouthfeel, though I suppose that tracks since it’s fine and powdery enough that it should infuse a little more richly. The taste isn’t great, though. The top notes are a bit sharp and coarse and then the mid sip is like a mix of store bough instant hot chocolate mix (sans sweetness/sugar) and cardboard. It’s just very, very papery. Maybe it would be better with sugar, milk or some other type of add in but I definitely think this is a let down as is…
Whomp whomp.
