Indeed a decadent as well as a synergistic tea! Must be the top quality Ceylon Tea that is used! This tea is designed for special occasions as well as being a dessert tea – but most drink it all the time because its taste is so delectable. We know that vanilla is reported to have ‘magical’ properties that calm the nerves and lift the spirit as well as allegedly improving the romantic aspect of one’s life. Indeed, a flavor that is full of mystery and elusiveness. Do not forget that vanilla was and still is highly prized. On account of this it is quite expensive and in Eastern Africa where the best vanilla is grown, it is not uncommon that vanilla rustling occurs. Combine the exotic character of vanilla with a velvet cream taste and you end up with the ‘Cadillac’ of flavored teas!

I bought this one and the plain vanilla black tea as 1oz samples ($2.20 – really good deal) and have been drinking them interchangeably without taking time to find out which one I prefer. Since I just had the plain vanilla I figured I’d have the vanilla cream and see if there is much of a difference. There actually is. The cream has the same yummy vanilla flavor, but (surprise surprise) is much creamier. Like having a vanilla tea with a little whipped cream in it. I think I prefer it. It’s a little smoother, doesn’t need much milk or honey. Both are good, but this is just a little better.
So I wanted something mellow and different but still familiar, so I grabbed this and cut open the bag. The first smell I was hit with was an alcoholic vanilla scent. Kinda like that smell you get when you smell the vanilla in the bottles from the store, but without that sweetness to the scent. So right off I was very doubting of this. But I brewed on.
I always go with the lower suggested steeping time, so this when for 2 min in my ingenuitea before decanting.
Smell wise the brew wasn’t bad. Nice creamy vanilla scent so I took an optimistic sip….and just about spat it back into my cup. Oh! Oh EWW! It tastes like when you lick the measuring spoon after measuring out vanilla extract without really thinking about it, expecting sweet vanilla flavor and only getting a sharp alcohol taste. BLEH! I even tried adding some sugar and I’m sorry to say that I only wasted the sugar.
Maybe the batch I got was very fresh made and the alcohol fumes of whatever flavoring they used didn’t have a chance to air off. But whatever it was, I’m not up for giving this a second chance. So Out Out OUT for this!
I just cracked this one open for the first time, I have a soft spot for plain vanilla anything, and enjoyed DTT’s Cafe Vanilla tea, I purchased this one hoping to find another delicious plain vanilla.
I did not.
When I opened it, the smell was pretty alcoholy, but I still gave it a chance.
It tasted OK, but not the creamy vanilla goodness I was hoping for, not even close.
The weird smell of the dry leaves seemed to somehow translate to the brewed tea. It wasn’t gross, and I pretty much finished my cup, but it absolutely not what I was hoping to find.

Aw, is it bad? I was on the Verdant website the other day and the same thing happened, it was like $28 for the CHEAP option! Highway robbery. Ridiculous. So much for wanting to let the people of the world experience your teas
Wait, no. It wasn’t Verdant, sorry. It was another site which had yummy teas I wanted to try. Verdant is on my list though, but I haven’t gotten as far with their shopping cart yet.
It was more than the cost of the samples to ship to me. :) I think it averages out at about $35, but am not 100% sure.
