From Cultivate Tea

Origin
Uji, Kyoto

We tasted this matcha – the highest grade that Arita Sansuien offers – after tasting several from their profile. Having enjoyed them all so much, we had to see what their top grade was like. After tasting it, we felt we had no choice but to include this tea in our collection.

This tea teaches us something about the highest grades of matcha: they can be so smooth, so soft, and so balanced that they are almost undetectable. In the realm of tasting notes and impactful sensory experiences, it takes a shift in perspective to appreciate the empty space matcha like this one offer. This is a wonderful tea: it presses down slightly on the mouth as it passes through it, and then it’s absorbed, and we are left to tongue the negative space it draws.

Of the eight different matchas I had this past week, this was the most mellow and delicate tasting with smooth, silky floral notes alongside a dewy, light and fresh green finish. Virtually no bitterness or astringency. Very, very easy going and light feeling! Also, such an absolutely intensely vibrant and beautiful microfoam when all whisked up. Definitely a favourite in my stash.
