Jardin du Luxembourg

What a garden of flowers. So floral and delicious. I think what I like best about this blend is that there are so many unusual flowers in it. Not just rose and jasmine, but acacia, water lily, aloe, and plum blossoms? Quite unique, and somehow it doesn’t come across as a perfume shop.

I enjoy floral teas. Very much.

A couple of years ago, Superanna gave me a jelly called Jardin du Luxembourg from Dammann Freres. It was soooo floral. I really enjoyed with cheese and crackers, or cheese and toast.

I had never heard of tea flavored jellies at that time and it took me a minute (okay, a lot more than a minute) to realize that if they had a jelly by that name then they must also have a tea by that name. I looked it up and immediately added it to my wishlist.

When I opened my gift and sniffed this, it was absolutely identical to the scent of the jelly. This is rich, decadent, heady perfume. I am delighted to have this on shelf.

Bought this through the 2016 Dammann Freres group buy. All of my DF teas were pretty perfumey but the smell of this alone was enough to trigger a migraine. It tasted like Herbal Essences shampoo or a bath bomb. I couldn’t taste the underlying oolong nor any of the flavorings because one cloying note – aloe, I think – overwhelmed everything. I ended up giving it away as the potpourri smell was too much for me. A shame it didn’t work out because the melange of flowers in this blend – plum blossoms, acacia, jasmine, hawthorn, etc – sounded so interesting and unique.

I am drinking a cup of this right now, and today it tastes to me like champagne. Huh?

This is a very perfumey tea- smells like potpourri, but does not taste as much like it as you would expect. I enjoy the florals I can taste (and smell!), but the base seemed to contribute very little to the tea, besides maybe a slight astringency on the second steep. There is something cloyingly sweet, which reminds me of crushed tobacco flowers and too-sweet generic airport handsoap that I am just not enjoying in this cup. Strange to hear me say that… an unsweetened tea that I do not like the sweetness of! It’s a brand of sweetness that is not really off putting, but not engendering either. Maybe it’s the lotus? The whole affair feels a little grandmother-y… I know! It tastes how I imagine those floral print couches would, if they were a tea! Haha!
