Now that’s fresh

When it comes to rooibos, some say green is the new red. Because while red rooibos tastes great, some say the new wave of unoxidized green rooibos is even better. What’s so special? The production process, which is similar to that of green tea, gives it a smooth, fresh taste. Here we’ve topped it up with the tropical flavours of papaya, apple, mango and peach. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified South African green and red rooibos, apple, mango, papaya. With artificial and natural flavouring*.

I’m not crazy about this one. I like the fruit part of the smell and flavor but there is something earthy in there that I’m not loving. I find that I like this tea better iced than hot but it will not become a favorite for me.

This tea was acceptable, but not exceptional. It was nicely fruity with a rooibos base I couldn’t even tell was there. I could not truthfully discern which specific fruits were in this tea, it was just a general fruit flavor. I enjoyed one steep because I had read that the second steep on this was just so very weak that it wasn’t even worth the effort. While I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase this tea, it was a nice quick tea for a sunny afternoon (yesterday.)

Thank you so much jump62359 for sharing some with me! :)

I’m not really getting any particular flavor from this one. I likely don’t have a good palate to discern different tastes. I used more leaf than was recommended because I wanted to be sure of the taste. It’s different, I guess it’s a fruit flavor. It is drinkable. I am going to hold of rating this one for now. I think it deserves another chance, maybe some sweetener next time would make it more flavorful?

Talk about polarizing views of this blend. But nothing stops me from trying a green rooibos. As expected, I cold brewed this for a good eighteen hours.

The liquor is a pale melon orange and smells of classic David’s peach/mango note.

Surprisingly, the papaya shows up in the flavour. I’m not even a huge fan of the stuff, but I like it here. It offers a fresh perspective on tropical teas since I far too often always pick up on the peach/mango and that’s it. And as for that, the flavours sway back and forth between peach and mango, which is a start since I find that most mango-flavoured things are basically just peach. For example, has anyone tried mango-flavoured yogurt? Total cop-out. The real dried mango must make a difference here.

I also appreciate that this isn’t overwhelmingly sweet like a lot of their other past and present mango blends. Would I repurchase, though? Eh, maybe, if I’m absolutely bored of all the other ones I cold brew and feel like papaya again.

Had this before bed. I liked it, it was very sweet and different from the normal berry sweetness.

Sampler received with my last online order. The smell is very fruity, like a tropical fruits salad. The fruit taste is more subtil, the rooibos taking almost all the place. Not exactly what I wanted to drink, but it still very satisfying.

In general, rooibos teas are a hit or miss for me, and anything with papaya in it I’m always nervous about – random allergic reactions to it sometimes. But a friend bought me some unknowingly, I tried it, no reaction, and it’s actually quite tasty! Refreshing, for sure (though it still has some of that heavy medicinal note that I associate with rooibos), and best during the summer as an iced tea.
