From DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: Fair Trade Certified Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring*.

This is probably the best flavoured tea Davids sells. Like no joke, it’s simply just really good. The smell is really buttery and creamy… and rum! (how do you get rum flavouring without actually adding rum?) There’s a generous amount of vanilla beans lying in the mix, and i think it’s what really makes this tea come through. The coconut works really well in this case too. I think I took awhile before getting to review this one, as I’ve always had it away from home, or always on a rush to bring in out on the go. Anyways, really this one needs no introduction, I think steepster has already affirmed that it shall be one of the highest rated flavoured black teas out there, I’m just going to add my vote of confidence :)

I could drank this tea again and again!

This time, i’ve tried something more special, more tasty. I’ve made the regular tea, then, i’ve added some (a little) pure maple syrup. The taste was really good. After that, i’ve added a little of Haagen Dazs “Dulce de Leche”. I found the taste really awesome! But, i’ve needed something even more awesome and finally i’ve added some… Rum. GOD DAMN! What a taste! Perfectly perfect!

Hm. I don’t know how I feel about Buttered Rum.

I like it, but it also scares me. The scent is interesting, but kind of knocks me backwards with how pungent it is. It does smell incredibly like rum.

It’s very buttery, and I’m thinking that’s not quite my thing. I like the taste, but am perhaps not accustomed to how it feels in my mouth. I’m liking it more the further through the mug I get, though. I think this one will just have to be saved for when I am in the right mood. With what looks like lots of nasty weather ahead, maybe that’ll be more often than I think.

I received a tasting pack from David’s, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this tea! It tastes more like butterscotch to me, but that’s quite alright haha. I like adding two milk to this one, seems to make it even smoother!

Sipdown! I used the last of my sample to make my morning cup of tea. I remember being underwhelmed by this tea the first time I had it. The aroma of the dry leaves was very thick and sweet, as was the brewed tea. The taste, however, lacked that sweetness. Truthfully, it fell flat for me. I expected a much bolder flavor based on thd smell and was disappointed with what I got.

I didn’t really go back to this tea after the first cup. … Okay. I may have gotten bored and mixed some with my Coffee Pu’erh because rum+coffee = awesome and gotten a really bad result.

Anyway. The leaves still smell sweet and the brewed tea smells like a butter rum LifeSaver candy! Yum! The taste, however, is still meh. It doesn’t taste like anything to me. Hot water, a little sugar, no flavor. Maybe I didn’t use enough leaves, but this is one tea I won’t be restocking.

It is cool and crisp this morning- change is in the air! Getting ready to go on a bike ride and I have been trying to put together an order with David’s only because I desperately want Pumpkin Chai. My cupboard is overflowing though and I need to really sipdown some of my less favorite teas so I can make room. This is one of those that I need to finish already so I am working on it. It tastes exactly like it is supposed to – buttery and rum-y with a hint of coconut and vanilla, but I am just not a liquor-tea person apparently. Really, I much prefer beer in the alcohol department. Last night we had a growler of New Holland’s The Poet and it was goooooood. I am a huge fan of porters and stouts, so sadly, rum doesn’t have much consideration in my life. This, however, is still a good flavored tea! I have enough for a few pots and fall/winter seems like the perfect time to sip this one down. I have lots of tasting notes that I didn’t post when Steepster was broken- hopefully this one works and I can start catching up. Happy Saturday all!

I honestly don’t know how I feel about Buttered Rum by DavidsTea…

I’ve tried it as hot and cold, straight and sweetened. No matter how I tried to like it, I just can’t seem to get past its strong aroma. I felt that it was overwhelming. I also thought its flavour reminded me so strongly of medicine. I like rum a lot, as well as many other alcoholic beverages – so whatsup with that? I guess I should just go on a whim here and say this was not my cup of tea.

Rum. Why is the rum always gone?

Maybe this tea is why? I was underestimating it, expecting a watery artificial butterscotch abomination at best. Because no one seems ot be able to do rum-flavoured ANYTHING properly.

This tea tastes like rum. Actual, legitimate, bottle-clinking, swigging, drink-up-me-hearties-yo-ho rum. As in, I want to brew this up and mix it with actual rum. Because thats the only way I think it could get any better.

Oh. My. GOSH. This stuff is amazing!!! The first sip took me by surprise, being quite astringent, with notes of rum and black tea… not necessarily amazing in my book. However, the rich, creamy buttery-ness that follows in the aftertaste is divine. Pure decadence. New favorite tea, hands down.

So, I had just enough Buttered Rum left for 1 last cup. Of course I just had to try it with a splash of actual rum. This is a big deal for me, as I normally NEVER drink rum, but all in the name of science, right? Er, I mean in the name of tea :-)
It was good, but I think I prefer it without the rum. The taste of the alcohol overpowered the tea too much for my taste. But it was definitely a fun way to accomplish a sipdown!
