From DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: Fair Trade Certified Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring*.

Lets start by saying I don’t like rum, which makes me wonder why I even bought this tea. I love steepster for just that, guiding me to a tea that I would never get because of its great reviews.

I am happy to report that I really like this tea. The leaves are pretty and smell sweet and buttery. I steeped it for a really long time, no idea how long, maybe 10 minutes. It is absolutely delicious. I don’t taste the rum, I do get a creamy buttery taste with tiny hints of coconut. I had it straight but will try it with milk and rock sugar next.

This tea smells and tastes like caramels. The coconut really adds a richness to the tea. The first-time I had this to go from the store, I really didnt like the smell that much so I just tried a cup. I loved it and ran right back to pick up 100g. I found it really different when I smelled it at home and was so glad that I tried it. This is one that I drink almost every single day!

Yaaaar there be goodness in ye cup!

So I grabbed this tea last night when I went into DT to get a selection of Green tea’s for my grandparents, unfortunately they did not have the Green Collection packages in stock so I just had to select a few from the wall. Then I realized with my left over change I had enough to grab 50 grams of Buttered Rum, so I did! I have tried a lot of the whisky themed tea’s and they all left me desiring something, not so much the case with buttered rum.

Dry it has a pungent and slightly overpowering alcoholic smell to it, this hits you in the face immediately but is followed by a buttery slightly sweet smell that may catch you off guard. I purchased this tea solely on the name and what I read here on Steepster. I didn’t even smell it till I got home, and when I did I was concerned I wouldn’t like it…WRONG!

The final brew is dark and has an awesome aroma that will remind you of days gone by that you enjoyed drinking hot toddy’s or hot ciders; however one sip and you will realize this tea isn’t as innocent as the others, it will certainly unleash your inner pirate. I enjoyed it so much I brewed a second cup and tossed in a splash of rum, all I can say is it could cause some problems for me at work!

I tried this for Day 1 of my advent calendar. The smell of the dry leaves is amazing, when steeped it taste so rich and yummy! It tasted buttery-rummy but I dont know if I taste the coconut. I think I am going to try it with almond milk next time! A great tea to start off the advent calendar, David’s Tea!

This was behind door one of the 24 days of teas. The dry leaf smells primarily of coconut and it steeps the color of rum. The butteriness comes out as it is steeping and smells like its namesake. My husband says it smells and tastes like Malibu without the alcohol. He wishes the flavor were stronger. I agree. Very tasty tea but not enough to warrant a full tin.

I unfortunately oversteeped this tea on my second taste, so the flavour isn’t quite what it was the first time I had it.

The flavour of this tea is quite nice, or at least it was last time when I paid attention to how long I had the tea bag in there. This time I actually did manage to fully appreciate the reason why it’s called Buttered Rum. There was a moment when I was drinking where I just sat there and thought “This tastes exactly like the lifesavers I used to get when I was little.” So I suppose the Folks at DAVIDs deserves some sort of recognition for that.

I’ve used up all of this tea that came in my advent calendar now. I am unsure as to whether I will be purchasing some of it to add to my collection more permanently or not yet. Still, a nice tea all the same.

I can’t decide what I love most about this – the smell or the taste. It smells so sweet and creamy, I love the coconut. My first thought was that it smells a little like popcorn lol

I first tried it straight up with nothing added and the flavour was amazing!! Doesn’t have too much caffeine either but enough to give you a little nudge in the mornings. I recently bought a whole tin and got it in a latte at David’s tea. It tastes just as good – if not better! – with milk, some agave, and a dusting of cinnamon on top.

This is now one of my favourite teas!

I loved this tea so much, I went back and bought 100g of it in the tea tin. It is super delicious to have in the morning. It is a super fragrant tea which translates well into tasting super yummy as well. I drink it usually without any sugar or milk – but added some in along with rock sugar makes it a really good treat. I usually tuck some in into my tea ducky and it makes a satisfying brew in the morning. It’s nice to switch it up from my regular old earl gray.

Thanks to Emilie for this awesome tea! This tops my flavored tea list now. Perfect brew of two heaping teaspoons in 16oz of water in my ingenuiTea. No bitterness and the flavors were wonderful! The smell out of the bag was buttery and delicious and it translated perfectly to the cup! Oh yum! Now I need aother DavidsTea order!

There is a note in this tea that totally reminds of of Werther’s Original candies. It is that buttery, toffee taste that is just so awesome. This tea stands up well to some milk and sugar, and is absolutely delightful. It makes me feel like I am having an amazing treat, but with a very small fraction of the calories of actually eating toffees.
