From DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: Fair Trade Certified Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring*.

This tea was in my shopping list since a long time and I finally bought it today!

It’s amazing! It’s now my second cup of this tea for tonight (I steeped it twice and it was still really good!). The flavor is perfect, buttery, rum-y(?) and strong. I don’t like black flavored tea when there’s just a hint of the said flavor. This one really hit the spot!!!

I added a dash of white rum ( I would have prefer brown but I don’t have any right now), some cane sugar and half a teaspoon of coffe mate ( I know strange… but delicious!) and it taste SO good.

The color really remind me of brown rum, a rich gold/amber color!

And I did it in my new perfect mug from DT (the clear one with the stainless stell strainer) I love clear mug when I drink my tea and the strainer is really good too!!

Tried this at twice as much tea and a minute longer steeping time. Still just a weak top-of-mouth sweetness and a little darkness in the back of the mouth. No “buttered rum” flavor, mostly just watery-tea taste.

This isn’t for me.

have you tried it with a bit of milk and brown sugar? I’m a straight up tea girl myself, and I felt it was watery and blah when I first had it as well, until I put some cream/sugar in it. Wow. It really transformed this tea into something else, I think it must be meant as a creamy dessert tea. if you have any left or feel the need to try to again, i would give that a try! Even a bit of soy milk and agave would take it over the top I bet!

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this tea – it’s really good. I can see why it’s been such a hit with the Steepsterites. It has such a rich, delicious flavor.

I love the way the buttery note builds. By the time I’ve finished the cup (which I just did), the flavor is so very buttery and rich and creamy. YUM! Very decadent.

This is definitely one of my favourite teas now! I find that the less I add to it, the better it is. Just a pinch of brown sugar and few drops of milk makes it JUST right and brings out that creamy, butteryness that others have mentioned here – simply delish.

This is my roommates tea. She asked me to sneak it into my David’s order because she wanted it and I’m all LEMME TRY SOME OKAY.

I smelled it and coconuts. I looked at the ingredients.. c o c o n u t s.
Okay well. If you can’t tell, I hate coconut. I’ve tried every possible coconut thing there is, and I never liked it UNTIL TEA CAME ALONG.
I’ve had coconut as a small flavour in teas and I have to say, it was decent. But this one, like the main flavour is coconut sooo let’s see if I like it! I’m all up for trying new things :)
Okay the first thing you see is legit coconut shavings soooo yeah. SO MUCH COCONUT.
Steeping still carries the coconut scent throughout.
Tasting it… why do I taste mint? There’s like an ever so slightly mint flavour… that’s weird. Definitely slightly buttery/oily, assuming it’s like from the oils of the coconut.
After a couple sips, yeah. Why do I taste mint? I didn’t have any mint teas today and I totally washed the strainer, and it’s a new mug and a new pot and.. oh this is weird I’M GOING CRAZY.

Overall, this tea is not too bad! Still a lot of coconut. There was this one tea that I had that had coconut in it that I barely tasted and I actually enjoyed it! But this one, oh it’s a lot. I’ll just leave the rest of it for my roommate to enjoy :)

The 2nd to last of the teas from the Sweet Indulgence set I got for Christmas.

This is without the recommended milk or rum, but with lots of sweetener. The tea is interesting with the coconut, the kind of tea I would like to have once in a great while. Truthfully, if it were a rooibos, I probably would be inclined to get it. I know it doesn’t have much caffeine, but the fact that it has alittle bit throws me off. Teas this sweet to me is more appropriate for after dinner as a substitute for dessert. So, in the long run I don’t think I would be getting a 50 gram bag of this.

Sorry if this spoils anyone, but today’s DT offering was Buttered Rum. Finally! A black tea! I was so relieved. I’d really wanted a break from the greens.

DAMN. This is delicious. The dry tea smells amazing, the brewed tea smells amazing, and it tastes amazing. I really get the butteriness, which I really wasn’t expecting to taste. The buttered rum doesn’t overpower the tea base though. This is definitely going on the to-buy-again list.

Now I want a hot buttered rum.

Me new crew be a bunch of teetotalers, they gave me this when I asked for grog. Picked it up in the great port of San Francisco, they did. Blimey! This be a coconutty brew. There be rum as well. Reminds me of the time we sailed through the Spanish Main.
A fine bit of booty to store in me hold.

I have never tried real buttered rum, but this tea is buttery for sure! You know, just the same buttery aroma when you buy popcorn at the cinema. :) I can’t really taste anything like rum in the tea, but this is a sweet-smelling tea and I think rum is on the sweet side too? The tea actually can appear a bit oily because savoury butter and fatty coconut dominate the cup! (And you can clearly see oil droplets floating in the cup :P) But you’ve got to admit that it tastes pretty nice and is a warming winter drink!

Okay, so I just tried this blend from 24 days of tea. I was very impressed. It def. has me excited for the other blends to come before Christmas. It was very intriguing and I loved that it was low in caffeine as well. Sometimes I find it hard to find a flavour tea I really enjoy that’s low or caffeine free. I’m not a fan of coconut but I didn’t seem to mind it in this blend. The fusion worked out great and the aroma was incredible. I feel like it makes a great after meal beverage. Bring out the real alcohol during dinner and once people are tipsy, start passing out this blend. No one will know the difference after a few ;)

I guess you can call me a tea drunk after this taste. I’m in love!
