From DAVIDsTEA

Get lucky

One sip of #7 and you’ll find yourself head over heels. Mysteriously changed. Magically happy. Walking on air. How does it work? Frankly, we don’t know. Our blender came up with it and then just ran off with the girl of his dreams. Maybe it’s the chocolate bits that lower your inhibitions. Or the seductive strawberries. Or the romantic rose petals. Either way, this black tea is seriously lucky.

Ingredients: Chinese black tea, dark chocolate (sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soy lecithin and vanilla), freeze-dried strawberry, red rose petals, natural and artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: Dairy and soy
Price per 50g: $7.98

I think I’ve had this one before but can never for the life of me remember it the next time. It is a tasty chocolate-strawberry blend, even if the rose gives it a bit of a floral edge I’m not fond of. The chocolate is similarly low-key; the overwhelming flavour I got was the dried strawberries. And they really tasted like dried strawberries – which isn’t a bad thing. If you’ve never had dried strawberries, a) why the hell not? and b) you’re dumb, because they are freaking delicious. Like little chewy candies of nature.

While it was tasty, it was also forgettable. For chocolate blends, I’d go for some Read My Lips or Chocolate Orange over this one.

Yeah, I wish this one would lose the rose.

Have you smelled the new Rose Congou Emperor blend they have? Nothing but rose, rose, and more rose.

nomadinjeopardy

I haven’t yet, no. A rose tea has to sound really mind-blowing for me to be interested. I don’t find ‘em revolting or anything, but it’s hard to get thoughts of perfume and potpourri out of my head.

I almost dumped my spoonful of leaves into my yogurt this morning, apparently I really have just been unable to function the past few days!

I really haven’t been drinking this tea as much as I’d like to. It’s funny, I went through two 50g bags quickly and when I finally decided to get a tin of it, I hardly touch it. I still love it though. This morning I’m getting a lot more of the strawberry flavour than the chocolate. I love having this tea with milk because I find the creaminess really balances everything out.

VariaTEA

Oh dear. Something tells me dropping the leaves into the yogurt would not have been nearly as tasty as actually brewing a cup.

Oh I don’t think so either!

Tried this one as a sample last night. I had it in the store months ago as a sample and didn’t like it at all. So when I got the sample in my last order I was thinking of giving it away. But it has so many things I like I decided to say “what the heck” and give it a shot. Well I loved it. So good. I will defiantely be rebuying this one.

Daddyselephant

In my opinion, never, ever based your opinion on a DT instore sample. I don’t know how they mess things up so royally, but they do! I had one manage to ruin Jungle Ju Ju for me ages ago and I’m honestly confused as to how they did it >.<.

I have learned my lesson now for sure.

What’s in your tea cup first thing in the morning?

Today? THIS ONE!

I am not a fan of rose petals in my tea, (though I will eat them with day lily petals on a bagel with cream cheese) but I must say they add a little something special to this tea, I think when I get my new (and first) teapot today, I will be enjoying me the last of this while I sit at home reading tonight!

But I digress, I am still not able to discern astringency and all those other notes that are in tea, unless I over steep it and today I (oops! sigh) over steeped this one, but a little cream and this will go down easy and in just enough time to choose another tea to put in my to-go cup and head to work!

Meh this is alright. It’s chocolatey, but artificially so. I’m not getting any strawberry flavour from it, nor the rose thankfully.
I do think this tea made me feel, well umm funny. It was almost anxiety like, but less panicky.

Anywho this won’t be a tea that I stock. I probably wouldnt have finished the tea off had there been more than just the one mug.

This one is so good! Chocolatey and raspberryish and hot and comforting. Definitely getting more for next winter. Yummo.

This time I made sure that I saw some rose teals in my infuser, as the last time I made this tea there was no rose in my cup. The result? Success! The rose takes away some of the sweetness of the chocolate/strawberry blend and takes the tea to another level. It’s still a bit like candy, but now it’s fancy candy! I like perfumed teas, so this is what I was looking for.

I drank this while I was teaching (piano) and my student had to stop playing to demand a bit of whatever smelled so lovely. This is a definite reorder for me – next time I will get the tin!

I can taste everything they promise: first the strawberries, then chocolate and roses, then a pleasant China black. I’m not always in the mood for this one, but today it’s doing nicely as a PMS tea. Chocolate and roses, I guess. I prefer this one slighty sweetened.

Oh I love this. I’ve tried Valentine’s from Adagio and didn’t care much for it, but this I like a lot. It tastes more like the real thing…chocolate covered strawberries.

I’m getting a lot of chocolate, especially in the aftertaste. Not picking up too much on the rose, which is totally fine by me. The strawberry scent was more prevalent for me in the dry leaf.

Next time I order from DavidsTea I am getting more of this. Thanks for sending me some to try, cheetah_pita!

I really really love the smell of this tea. When you open it up it smells just like strawberries dipped in chocolate, yum, yum, yum! There is a slight hint of floral but really the strawberry and chocolate stand out.

After steeping the color of the liquor is lighter than I thought, it is still a nice amber color but on the lighter side.

First taste was not what I expected… all I could taste was the black tea… I really really wanted to taste the strawberries and chocolate but all I tasted was the black tea. Not that this is a bad thing just not what I was expecting.

After it cooled a bit I could taste just a hint of chocolate and strawberries and I could really smell the florals in it but I could not taste the floral notes at all. I am going to have to brew this a couple of times and see if can’t get the strawberries and chocolate to pop more.
