Pink Flamingo

Dry Leaf Nose: Tart and sweet citrus nose.

Liquor: Rich pink colour with a bright citrus character.

Flavour: Follows the nose well, clean and refreshing.

I made the last of this as a cold brew. It turned out ok. Something about the lemongrass is just hitting me the wrong way. It tastes very lemon peppery to me as a cold brew. I feel like I would like this tea if there was no lemongrass in it. It is not bad but I thought I would love this iced when in fact I prefer it hot. Guess you never know until you try :)

Super crappy night tonight. My cousin (who is the closest thing I have to a sister since they lived with us when she was little) got married last weekend in Niagara Falls. Small ceremony but the grooms Italian family wanted them to have a party so that is tomorrow night. I told her my gift to them would be the wedding cake. It is not real cake but styrofoam. So far it has cost me about $300 to get the supplies for it. Well tonight I have spent 6 hours trying to get the “cake” covered in fondant. I got the top tier (6inch) and middle tier (10 inch) covered but I have tried 5 times to get the bottom tier done and it just isn’t happening. As it stands now I am out of fondant and am really hoping my cake instructor can bail me out in the morning and cover this cake for me. My dining room table is covered in shortening and I am just done. So stressed that I am not going to be able to get it done and she won’t like a 2 tier cake. So worried about this it isn’t funny.
Anyway to make a long story short (too late) I decided to break into my stash of Pink Flamingo to calm my nerves. Seems to be working. I am really going to miss this tea when I run out as I have found nothing like it. At least tonight it is here to help me out.

Iced and lightly sweetened, this is tasty. For some reason it reminds me of Tazo’s Passion tea, though this is a bit more citrusy. The hibiscus and tangerine make a nice pair, but it’s not particularly special. I’m glad I got to sample this, but I don’t think it’s something that I will buy for myself.

this is excellent as an iced tea with (a ton of) sugar, but i would 100% NOT recommend it hot to anyone who has the same battle with hibiscus as i do.
it is so tart and blech tasting when hot, i don’t even want to think about it again to describe it.
a definite NO for me.
iced though (a cold steep), in the summer, it is quite nice.

This is another tea I got in trade with ladykittykat, and I have to say, this was very nice. Very pink, very sweet, citrus smell. I want this as a cologne :D. Anyway, I kind of lot track of the steeping time for the first infusion, but the taste is amazing. You start out with a hot, vaguely vegetal taste that morphs into this bright citrus tase, then a slightly more vegetal taste at the end. There is a strange counterbalance to the flavors that I like, but it is still rather unusual to have this wonderful citrus flavor kind of bracketed by something so mild.

The second infusion had a better blend of flavors, but it was also a bit weaker.

I really enjoyed this tea, but I don’t know if I will be getting it on a regular basis. I still need to do some experimentation.

Yikes! Hibiscus! I bought this before I realized how strong it could be. It was also $2.50 for a 25g bag so I thought why not?

It’s ok, but the rose and hibiscus overpower it. It was tart and terrible when I brewed it hot, but tart and drinkable iced. I just have to empty this last pitcher and I am done with it!

The dry leaf smells exactly like grapefruit. I love grapefruit, so this should be good.

Steeped it a long time…don’t know how long. I had it going while I was finishing up another cup. The colour is a dark pink and looks nice in my glass cup.

This is my favorite out of the three fruity herbals I got to try last week, but I still find myself longing for some Kanpe. The taste is tart straight, I think it would be great iced. WAIT I COULD RESTEEP IT OVER ICE! Runs to kitchen and puts tea back in steeper

Omg so much better. I added a hint of honey to my DavidsTea Steeper, and now it tastes exactly like starbucks passion iceteas. Will not longer be drinking hot, it just isn’t as good.

My first attempt at cold steeping using the last of this tea I own.

After about 4 hours it tasted very refreshing, grapefruity and tasty, however it was just a couple sips because I needed to be out the door for jiu-jitsu. I come back and tackle this tea 3 hours later and it was very strong flavors. Okay but not great.
I should of finished it then, but I put it back in the fridge and tried it the next morning…
OMG Pink Flamingo was so strong it was horrible, like drinking straight up citrus rind of death!

However, this method very much so reduced the tart-o-meter on Pink Flamingo and was more enjoyable before I butchered it by over steeping.

With that said, I learned a lot from the experience.

I’ve already established that I quite enjoy Pink Flamingo, but I’ve never tried a David’s Tea tea iced (outside my iced spearmint tea actually FROM David’s Tea.)
Gotta say, I’m going to be resorting to iced tea a lot more frequently this summer!
Quite a treat.
I’m going to whip up a batch of simple syrup though, because cold things need to be sweet.
