I got a bit excited and ordered a whole tin of this one.

Sometimes, you take a risk and it pays off. Sometimes it doesn’t. Like this time.

Unfortunately, Carrot Cake is not for me. I wanted to like it. The description sounded so perfect. Oolong! Apples! Coconut! Carrots! What’s not to love?

But there’s a smell to this that I find very off-putting. Maybe it’s the mysterious “flavouring.” It’s artificial and unpleasant, and makes every sip a task to not inhale as I drink. Gives me a headache actually.

Anyway, I’ve since put the tin out in the common area for others to partake in, and there have been several people who have approached me to say how much they love it. Maybe I’m just crazy.

And maybe I’ll think twice next time before impulse-buying tea online…

Happy I read this….I was about to order a whole tin.

I hate the smell of carrot cake too, because they make the other ingredients so strong so it can withstand the resteeps as the oolong keeps on releasing flavour. Steeped, however is a whole different story. Unfortu you didn’t like it :’( return?

Drunk From Tea

Omg the same thing happened to me but with the winter collection Hot Toboggan tea. Yeah I bought a whole tin of it too and I do not enjoy it at all. I feel ya.

My first oolong! I liked this tea! I don’t think it’s fully “carrot cake” but the taste is nice to me. It was a really light tea in color and flavor, but I enjoyed my cup! I will agree that the dry smell doesn’t smell like carrot cake at all, I can’t even really place the smell. But all in all, I liked the tea! I’m actually not really a carrot cake fan at all, haha, but I think that’s why I like the tea because I find the flavor extremely light and subtle. Nice! ….Any oolong recommendations would be appreciated!! (Online or davids since thats the only tea shop nearby!)

Edit: bumping this rating up because I think I’m starting to love this tea!

I’ve had this in my cupboard for a while and I have merrily carted it from work to home and this weekend to Camp Bernard! Yes this tea has been to Scout Camp!! And I must say I was SO happy to have it with me! It fought off the cold, and slowed down the progression of the cold I have now.

The kids agreed that the tea smelled like carrot cake with frosting and one even went so far as to try and trade me his hot chocolate for my tea at “mug up” – Sorry kid, this tea is for big kids.

Mmmm carrots, Mmmm apples, Mmmm delish! You won’t want to share either.

I just don’t understand. This tea of the month was the first that I was excited for. The first that made me want the summer days to go by just a bit faster. I really, REALLY wanted to get my hands on this tea!

October rolls around and I run into DT to pick me up some Carrot Cake. I grab the canister and take a big whiff, only to be completely turned around. WHAT is that unidentifiable smell? Why is it so potent? Shouldn’t this smell like carrot cake or spices? I decide to buy 25g anyway, just because I had been waiting so long and still had the higest of hopes.

Nope. Shouldn’t have done it. It tastes just as odd and unidentifiable and un-carrot cake as it smells. I’ve tried it twice to no avail. And I agree with Nurvilya, it gives me a headache. Overall, it’s just a disappointing lost cause.

BTW, if anyone in the MTL region would like the rest of my bag, feel free to message me! :)

Nurvilya

sigh We seem to be similarly excitable when it comes to new teas… Sorry to hear this one was as disappointing for you as it was for me.

I was really hoping to love this one. I made a travel mug to take with me to my WW meeting last night. And the great thing about all these teas is that having them has reduced my craving for sweets. And they are 0 points if I put nothing in them. So since I like Carrot Cake I was hoping I would love this but no such luck. There is an odd smell to it. I can’t even describe it but it hits my nose and messes with the taste. It is an ok tea. I will try this one again. I put almond milk in it so I will try it plain and see if that changes anything. Maybe I will try baking with it.

Daddyselephant

Yeah, when I got some to try, the girl was super busy and gave me 50g instead of the 26 I asked for. I didn’t notice until I’d left, so I was hoping I’d love it. No such luck. I might try playing with it and latteing it up, but we’ll see. It is definitely an odd tea. I know I could return it, but all tea returns are composted, which makes sense, but I hate to see good tea go to waste just because I don’t care for it.

Cattibrie

I wondered what they did with returned tea. I may see if my mom likes it since she seems to like different tea than I do.

Jenn

Noooooo! DaisyChubb didn’t like this one either and I have little hope that I’ll like it once my order arrives. Le sigh… TheNecessiTeas makes an excellent Carrot Cake Rooibos and I have plenty to share if you’d like to try it :)

I am a huge fan of carrot cake. The mixture of spice, carrot and cream cheese makes my mouth very happy! So when I saw the Carrot Cake tea, I didn’t think I should even chance it, as it would have to be purely amazing to make me go back for more. The smell of the dry leaves didn’t excite me terribly, but I decided to take a chance, and bought some.
Tonight I had a huge craving for my fave cake and remembered I had this tea in the cupboard. So great time to try it, right? I brewed some up and took a sniff. Not a huge fan of the smell, but it wasn’t gross. Next was the taste test. One sip was enough to tell me this wasn’t going to kill my craving for Carrot cake. The tea was alright, tasted better the cooler it got. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it.

So, having more of this today. I’m feeling a bit chilly and decided to have some tea. I was going to have some of The Skinny, but in a last minute decision, decided on this. I decided that The Skinny was much better suited as a follow up to tonight’s pending dinner of fish n chips. I can’t handle that much grease, so hopefully The Skinny will be helpful there.

Today’s brews were with a fair amount of milk and brown sugar, and this is a pleasing and comforting tea as prepared this way, however I don’t taste much of the tea. But I had some milk in a separate container I needed to clear out so I could use my little water bottle again for work. Anyhow, it is still comforting this way. I still aim to try it sans milk and see what it is like that way. I have a little of this left…just a serving or two (plus multiple brews).

Again, thanks to awkward soul for letting me try this tea.
I had good experience with long life oolong from david’s tea so I guess I was expecting a bit much from this tea. It kinda tasted similar to long life oolong tea to me, but just with less flavor. I couldn’t really feel “carrot cake” from this tea, but maybe it’s because I haven’t had carrot cake for so long? lol
It is decent tea, but just nothing for me to wow! about :)

So I expected sweet earthy orangey vanilla tastes. I got artificial bland chemical weak tastes. So, I added some stevia and the taste improved a tad but this is a big let down. It has so many bad reviews that David’s should reconfigure this tea using natural flavourings and send it to each one of us who has found it bad and renew its name!
