I took a chance and got a tin of this as it sounded so wonderful. Unfortunately, it was not at all what I was hoping for. It tastes like maple flavored icing, with no birthday “cake” likeness whatsoever. Bummer. It also had an unpleasant oily residue. People that love sugary icing type things may love this, but I am the oddball that scrapes most the icing off.

This one is so good! My favorite of David’s teas so far. I’m sad I only got 1 oz! Will have to go back and get a tin.

This tea is gently sweet – perfect for drinking without milk or sugar. I love the look of the dry leaf with the colorful sprinkles! Definitely a happy-looking tea. Dry, it smells like cakey goodness, too, but the steeped taste is a different story. I get subtly sweet from this one, not birthday cake and frosting like I was hoping for. Not a bad tea, but not the dessert substitute I wanted.

Delicious tea! I made it with a bit of milk, and had it late at night when I wanted dessert but didn’t feel like eating anything.
I reused the leaves to make a second cup for my boyfriend, and he had it without milk.
I definitely liked it with milk better! It’s the first tea I’ve had that tasted EXACTLY like how it smelled, but not quite as sweet!

This is the second sweet rooibos I’ve loved, I’m starting to think rooibos might be my gateway to tea in general!

When I opened the bag and that maple smell wafted up, I got a bit nervous. Oh, no, I thought, not Oh Canada again. (I’m planning on trying Oh Canada again someday, on the theory that I got a bad or old batch, but right now the not-delicious memory is too fresh.)

Fortunately, that maple aroma doesn’t come through anywhere in the taste. It’s creamy to start with, in a vanilla frosting sort of way, and that flavor just builds up until the cake portion comes through. I found it plenty sweet on its own – even when I tried it iced, the frosting flavor remains intact with a hint of sweetness. I actually think that if I got more of this, I’d try mixing it with some other rooibos blends, to see if that would lend that creamy feel to other flavors. A nice dessert-y nightcap.

I love this tea sooo much!
I have tried Red velvet cake by DT as well, but Birthday Cake is much better in my opinion!!
When I first got this tea, I drank several cups everyday,
that I finished the 50g of tea within a week

scent:
Strong sweet rooibos smell which I personally love
While i was enjoying my cuppa, some people around me found it unpleasant

Tates:
I won’t say it tastes just like birthday cake.
It’s sweet, and lovely as a dessert tea to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Oversteeped, it still tastes awesome! You can leave it in your tumbler and not worry about it getting bitter.

I would recommand this tea to anyone who likes Rooibos tea,
and if you are looking for a sweet dessert tea.
I will always have this in my tea stash!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE

I tried so hard to like this tea. So. Damn. Hard.

It’s not that it’s unpleasant… It’s just so… rooibos-y. To me it tastes woody, and I really can’t seem to get over that. It’s not that I hate it… I just don’t really like it all that much.

I do, however, like the maple-y sweetness component of it. This component comes through better with a splash of milk. I’m glad it’s a crowd pleaser too – it was recently my birthday so I have a heck of a lot of it!

First of all, Birthday Cake smells amazing. A friend of mine had it the other day, and after smelling it I knew that I had to buy some for myself. It smells like an ice cream cake you would buy from Dairy Queen, which makes sense since the tea contains little bits of ice cream and sprinkles (which are no longer visible after steeping.)

I was a little bit let down by the actual taste, since the smell made me hype the tea up in my head so much. It was still quite good though! You can still taste the ice cream, and you get what seems to be a bit of a maple taste too. I found it a bit too sweet for me, but if you like sweet teas, birthday cake will be great for you.

This one is really sweet and tastes alot like maple. I find roibos teas to sometimes be quite woody thats why I was a bit hesitant to try such a sweet flavour with that base. I would definetely classify this as a dessert tea and I find you really have to be in the mood to drink it for it to be good.
