Ice Cream Cake

Really loving this!
I was surprised that it really does taste like Neapolitan ice cream when I first tried it as a cup of tea in my local David’s. Awesome. I take mine with milk, but no sugar as it really does not need any extra sweetener. It it fairly well balanced, and no one flavour is seriously overshadowing any of the others. The black tea base works very well to ground the sweetness of the ‘ice creamyness.’ A friend suggested this as a frappuchino for summer, so I’m looking forward to giving that a try. It would also be excellent as a latte.

I’m obsessed with Ice cream cake, so you can only imagine how intrigued I was when I found out David’s Tea had this blend. However, this was another one of David’s Tea blends that I was disappointed in. Again, probably because of the hype my friends made it out to be “the best thing since slice bread.” I wasn’t fond of the smell of the tea, it actually gave me a headache. As for the taste, I didn’t really feel it actually tasted like Ice Cream Cake and to be honest I thought it was a bit too sweet for my liking as well. It’s not a blend I would try again.

52teas’ rainbow sherbert is one of my favorite gimmicky dessert teas, so I was really excited to try this one out!

The leaf looks and smells a bit odd. The scent isn’t bad, but it’s not much like ice cream, and the appearance is kind of… messy, presumably due to the fact that sprinkles and freeze dried ice cream are not designed to keep their shape when mixed with tea leaves. But hey, I didn’t get this to stare at it, so let’s move on.

The flavor with no additions is similarly hard to describe. If I didn’t know what it was, I might guess some kind of strawberries and cream, and knowing what to look for I can definitely tell that there’s freeze-dried ice cream in there. It’s also got a notable sweetness that will probably turn a lot of people off, but I don’t mind.

I also tried this with milk because it seemed like the proper thing to do, but it was a poor choice and just diluted the flavor.

This is a tough tea to rate! It’s definitely got an intriguing and unique taste and I’m glad I tried it, but I’m not sure I’d say that I like it. I’d rather drink an okay unique tea than an okay boring tea, so points for that, but unless you’re as curious as I was I would say to skip it.

Love this tea iced! Add a little bit of honey and milk to it and it makes a yummy chilly treat. The tea is very creamy and has a nice vanilla taste to it, the sprinkles are also a very cute touch. Really good with a bit of hazelnut cream!
I have had this tea hot and it was also a great treat.

The dry smell isn’t horribly appealing to me. Too much competing for attention, I think. Brewed it is has a nice flavor. Definitely a sweet tea. Reminds me of tea as a child – milk and sugar. I’m not a huge fan of milk in teas. I generally prefer them to be darker, stronger teas to handle milk. I wasn’t fond of the appearance of the brew at all, though. As noted by another reviewer, it looked “scummy.” No worries on taste – it doesn’t taste “scummy” at all. :)

I probably won’t buy this again myself but I will share it with people I know who are not huge tea people but who like sweet drinks.

The scent of the dry leaf was much stronger than the brewed tea, but I think it just needs a longer steep than the usual two minutes I do for black.

It was creamy – it tasted like ice cream! Weeeeird. I didn’t get any particular ice cream flavour over another, but again, I need a longer steep before I can really pick one out. Definitely want to keep drinking this.

This tea smells like alcohol to me and I am not a fan, however when it’s steeped it smells like pink ice cream and tastes like pink ice cream. I tried it as an iced latte today and flipped right out. It was amazing. My biggest concerns with this tea are (1) the fact that I only want to drink this from now untill I die and (2) When you steep it it’s not hot pink. :(

Oh man, I miss this tea. I wish I could buy a ton of it from some Tea Black Market. I’d trade a kidney, for real. sigh

Why oh why don’t I trust my instincts!?
I KNEW this tea wouldnt be as good as Birthday Cake based on all the reviews. But I wanted Ice Cream Cake consarnit.
I have a little bit of regret.
Dry, it looks like confetti and I love it. It smells strongly like neopolitain ice cream. That’s ok!
Steeped, it smells delicious. I felt it could kick ass with some milk so did that. Need to stop doing that the first time I try a tea. So crazy.
While it is definitely drinkable, and I won’t have a problem finishing the little bit I did get, I just don’t feel crazy about it. Especially when I think there is probably something I’d love more. However, this is how I learn!
Will continue to enjoy with milk and sugar, but won’t repurchase. Boo.

Something about the way this dry tea smells throws me off a little. It’s sweet, but there’s a hint of something that almost smells like alcohol. I’m not entirely certain what it’s from, it might be the stevia. But I have to say, the dry tea looks like an ice cream cake, complete with sprinkles and all.

Once steeped, the smell dies down to a light, sweet vanilla scent. Although I think the sprinkles and freeze-dried ice cream are an innovative addition, they leave a residue on the surface of the tea. Not a big deal to me, but it might turn some people off.

This tea really does taste like liquid ice cream. Obviously not as sweet, but the major flavours are all there. I would compare it most closely to Neapolitan ice cream! The tea is very creamy, as promised. And although I never drink milk in my tea, I’ll add some to see what the effect is. It seems appropriate, given that it’s an ice cream tea… Note: I am lactose intolerant, so I am taking a huge risk here.

Oh my. With milk, this tea is even better, phenomenal even. Creamier, but still just as sweet. I feel like I just took a big bite out of a delicious dessert. Awesome.

Although the dry smell and the way the steeped tea looks are unwelcome surprises, the taste is creamy, rich and just sweet enough for my taste buds. With milk, it’s a goldmine of deliciousness.
