From DAVIDsTEA

Floating on air
As far as we’re concerned, the root beer float is king of the soda shop. The crackle and fizz of root beer, the cool richness of vanilla ice cream – what could be better? Well, what if we brought the malt shop right to your tea shelf? With black tea, vanilla, cinnamon and white chocolate, this sweet, lightly creamy black tea blend tastes just like the classic treat. For the full experience, try it as an iced latte with lots of foam.

Ingredients: Organic: black tea from Sri Lanka, vanilla, cinnamon, white chocolate, safflower.

I drank this today using my free tea from joining the Frequent Steepers club at DAVIDS, and asked that they make it a hot latte.

OMG. Really. I immediately walked back in and bought 100g of this beauty and I plan to make tons of lattes with it.

Really? I would have never thought of having this as a latte.

TeaLady441

Mmm. Vanilla, chocolate, and sasparilla…. They all go well with milk!

OMGsrsly

Oh, I have to try that! Tomorrow, though. :)

Oh yum!

You know, every time I see your name, I have to look closer. There’s a band called Corvus Corax. I haven’t listened to them in a while, but I think I will now.

Sil

huh..who would have thought..

Also a pleasant surprise, since I don’t norammly enjoy the taste of root beer. But hey, I’ll try just about any tea once! The taste wasn’t as strong as I feared (which may deter those who do like a good root beer flavour), and I sipped this down quite quickly.

This tastes like a root beer float! I was so disappointed with the first version of this tea when Davids Tea came out with it some years ago.
This version smells better and tastes way better!!! I hope it becomes permanent. Thank you Davids Tea for bringing us this upgraded version.

I got a whiff of this tea the other day when the Carnival theme debuted and the leaves were very fragrant, and a little strange. Today, I got to try Root Beer Float, back to back with Cherry Snowcone. Neither were a top flavor for me, but I came to get tea, so here we go! I went with the root beer. I like root beer, birch beer, cream soda, ginger beer as sodas outside of the tea world, so this wasn’t too crazy of a step for me. If you don’t like root beer, this probably won’t be for you. I like that there is sasparilla in the mix, it adds authenticity in addition to added flavoring. I wish there more more natural things that could be in the blend to make this taste like something; but what we consider a root beer flavor doesn’t really occur in nature. I’d rather there wasn’t chocolate pieces in the blend, since I don’t really taste the creaminess and don’t need sugar in my tea constantly. Ultimately this blend is a bit strange, sort of like drinking chocolate tea cold with no milk. It tastes like root beer flavoring, but less sweet than a root beer barrel candy. I don’t know if it’s rooibos or the sasparilla that gives this a medicine aftertaste. Maybe if you drink your tea with lots of sugar and milk this ends up like a creamy dessert? Not my style, but glad I could try it.

I was running errands in the mall today with a friend and though neither of us were interested in either tea of the day, we decided to get tea anyways. She got a Mango Fruit Punch teapop and I got this as a latte. Given I already own this tea, I probably should have tried something new and made this at home but I was curious so I just decided to go with what called to me. Honestly, hot and plain, this was weird but as a hot latte everything comes together to perfectly capture a root beer float. Amazing!

TeaLady441

A latte still counts as something new!

VariaTEA

I suppose that is true but I can make a latte at home.

This is the new one from Summer 2014. It’s not labelled as organic, I don’t think, and the ingredients are in a different order. Also, safflower isn’t listed on their website or on the tin, but it’s obviously present. The girls in the store emailed for clarification on that one. There’s also lemongrass in the Cherry Snowcone. So.

Anyways. I made this iced for myself and my BFF. 2 cups of tea, added 2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk, and then topped up to 4 cups with ice.

SO GOOD.

I do taste the cinnamon and vanilla, for sure. But the root beer flavouring they use is fab. Not quite a soda, not quite a float, but something delicious anyways. :) Highly recommend. I have a feeling I"ll be getting a tin of this.

A giant tin perhaps?!?

Sil

i hate you guys lol

OMGsrsly

No, I think just 100g. I do like the s&v one as well though it’s not so creamy, and the Butiki one. :)

Roswell Strange

Blerg. I need to empty a tin out for this one but nothing is quite at sipdown level that I’m ok with parting with. And I totally can’t afford the closet space for a new tin…

OMGsrsly

Just… get a bag. Or two. Or three. :D

oddree

Root beer & condensed milk iced tea – wow, sounds so good!

OMGsrsly

Iced milky teas = awesome, I don’t really think it matters what the flavour is as long as you like it with milk. :)

Another from David’s Tea carnival collection! This tea is very strange, because I love the root beer taste that pops up in the middle of the sip, then fades. The creamy vanilla is also very good, but what makes it strange is the cinnamon taste. It’s not just cinnamon. It’s like chewing a piece of cinnamon gum for a really long time. You know when most of the intense flavour is gone, but there is still a hint left in your gum and you can mostly taste faded cinnamon and well, gum… I like that taste personally. But maybe not so much in my tea. In the end, it does taste somewhat like root beer but I really wouldn’t say a root beer float. Maybe I’ll add a bit of milk next time to see… Must try this as iced tea. I did add some sweetener. Because, come on…Root Beer Float. That s just begging for extra sugar.

Oh and my new pearl 12oz timolino is sexy. That is all :P

albertocanfly

Thank you for reviewing the DT carnival teas! I was curious as to how they tasted..They all sound so good..just can’t get myself to purchase them:P

I’m back logging this so far back I can’t even remember.
I had bought some more at DT to try cold brewing one last time, and reached the conclusion it may have been better hot brewed and then iced, because it just seemed to lack flavor and depth when I cold brewed it. Nothing compared to the amazing smell.

At least I don’t need to buy it!

TeaLady441

I think I like this one better hot too. And with milk. I won’t bother cold-steeping it now, especially with your review.

Sil

i love this as a latte
