Before my loose-leaf tea days, a favorite tea of mine was Stash’s lemon ginger tea bags. Since then, warm ginger tea is a flavor of comfort and health to me. Super Ginger from Davids Tea, is a close approximation to that old flavor of my earlier years. I let this tea steep for a long time, and while it is spicy from the ginger, the stevia and green rooibos help even it out with a little honey-like sweetness. I like the idea that there are peppercorns in the mix though I can’t exactly pick out their flavor. As usual with Davids Teas, I would have liked the blend to be made without stevia and been a bit spicy or bitter, so that one could add sweetness as needed. Still, it is not too sweet to drink, so I’m not too worried. I am very glad that it is an herbal blend, and caffeine-free so I could drink it under a quilt at bedtime or as a means to settle both my stomach and my mind without getting myself hyped up. The purest ginger tea Davids had to offer.

Like I said on my profile, I’m pretty much obsessed with ginger. And this blend does not disappoint! Before it’s steeped, it smells almost like ginger salad dressing, much to my delight (though not sweet at all). After steeping, you can smell more of the pepper in the blend. The taste is dominated by ginger and pepper notes, which give the tea a nice spicy burn on the tongue. I also like the green rooibos— it has less of a medicinal taste to it than red rooibos, so it gives the blend a hint of vegetal sweetness. Make no mistake, though… This is a spicy savory tea, meant for ginger fanatics like myself. No caffeine; it’s great as a digestive aid. It also adds an extra kick to subtler ginger teas, like Sweet Ginger Heat and Gingerbread from DAVIDsTEA, so I often blend it with those.

Had this tea brewed in store. Strong ginger flavor that turns more peppery the longer you let it steep – I have a bad habit of leaving the bag in when I get tea to go. Definitely spicy by the end of the cup.

I was very very sick today – to the point of barely being able to walk. I dragged myself into making myself a cup. It was an excruciating wait. But.it.was.worth.it. 10 mins after drinking half my cup I felt a thousand times better and more relaxed. The sick feeling was all gone and I was left just feeling tired and infinitely relieved.

I must say I’m beyond surprised. I didn’t have much hope for this blend. My mum used to brew me fresh ginger lemon tea when I was a child and I didn’t think something store bought could give me similar results.

The taste is not super gingery (ironic, I know) but you taste a little ginger. I like my ginger strong but since this actually worked as a cure I’m not complaining. The green rooibos was a great choice to blend it with as there is no caffeine. Caffeine would have been the death of me today. Lastly, the stevia – I was a lot sceptical when I saw it in the ingredient list and I still wish they left this addition out, but thankfully the tea was not as sweet as I expected. Infact, I barely tasted the sweetness and as I hate sweet teas or excessively sweet, well, anything, I would have insta-hated this tea. Well played DavidsTea

This is a nice approach to a ginger tea and the rooibos is not intrusive. I’ve had this once before though, and I can tell I messed up this cup because it tastes pepperminty and there’s no peppermint in this tea. The peppermint from my last steep (Snow Day) is bleeding through! Must remember to do a better job rinsing out the steeper.

After enjoying a relaxing long weekend with my finance, I’m sick. It’s not even the good kind of sick (pardon the oxymoron) where you sleep for a day and feel better. Nope. This is the sort of cold that both keeps you awake and insists that you sinuses also be plugged.

Bleck.

I received this as a sample in my most recent order. It’s not something I’d ordinarily try as I historically haven’t been a huge fan of ginger in my tea. Truthfully, I keep expecting to hate this one, but I don’t. It’s spicy and hot and really soothing. I’ve already gone through a pot and I’m making another.

The only downside is that I don’t have any more of this. I can see it being really helpful when I’m back at work tomorrow.

Peppery, gingery, and a little sweet. This fiery tea is slightly sweet, and one of my favorites. The peppercorns give it a spiciness that I love, and my only (minor) complaint is that I would prefer it to be a little more gingery, it is called “Super Ginger,” after all! That being said, I would definitely recommend it, and it’s one of my favorite ginger teas!

After I realsied I had a weird craving for ginger, I picked up 25g of this this afternoon. Nice and warm and soothing and very spicy – exactly what I was looking for. It’s nice to get back to the basics every now and again! I will definitely be picking more of this up (especially when my stash of Hot Mama runs out).
