From DAVIDsTEA

This might just be the most decadently creamy fruit infusion we’ve ever tasted. Seriously. It’s almost crazy how much it tastes like a warm and comforting apple pudding. Our caffeine-free blend combines sweet apples, golden raisins and a rich and creamy hint of vanilla. Go ahead, indulge. With this in your cupboard, who needs dessert?

Ingredients (Original): Apples, golden raisins, coriander, chamomile, natural and artificial vanilla flavouring

Ingredients (10th Anniversary Update): Apples, golden raisins, coriander, calendula petals, natural and artificial vanilla flavouring. (May contain coconut)

I’ve been trying to decrease my tea collection, but December being my birthday month and with Christmas, I knew I was going to get tea as gifts ;).

I brewed this for a solid 10 minutes on my break at work. When I went to drink it, it tasted under-leafed and I know that wasn’t the case. My cup is slightly larger than normal but I know I used enough. To me it just tastes like watered-down Forever Nuts. You can taste a bit of apple but like other posters have said it is a little artificial. As for the custard part, that’s purely in the smell of the tea and not in the taste.

My verdict is that Forever Nuts is a better choice. I’ll use this tea up but I will not repurchase (especially because I’m getting out of fruit teas).

This tea is okay; I’m not a huge fan of sweet teas but I got a free sample of this to try a while back and finally brewed it up today. The main flavor is vanilla cream, the “custard” element of this tea. I really don’t taste much fruit or apple. There is a holiday-spice element present that goes beyond just cinnamon, which is nice, but it is not very strong. A pale herbal tea for someone with a sweet tooth.

My first review here! (and one of my first times buying from David’s Tea)

When I saw this in the store, I loved the scent. It reminded me of a mix between apple cider and vanilla, but mostly Apple cider. I was a bit miffed as to why coriander was in this tea, and a bit worried as well – I enjoy coriander in savory types of things, but it didn’t seem to fit with the other ingredients in the tea. But you can’t taste the coriander anyhow.

The strongest flavor, is overwhelming apple, and a hint of vanilla – it tastes quite like how it smells. It’s extremely creamy, especially for something that has no dairy products in it! I had it right after our thanksgiving feast, and though its not exactly a dessert tea, I thought it was pleasant way to finish off a fantastic meal. But if you leave the tea for a while, it takes on a bitter/sour (?) aftertaste. I’m not quite sure why it took on that taste because it was fine in the beginning. It’s not unbearable, but it’s not at all something you would want to drink too often.
All in all, it’s an ok tea definitely something for the fall season. Not something that needs to be in my cupboard at all times, but it’s good to have every once and a while

Time for another David’s winter tea! This one is super chunky, with whole golden raisins and big pieces of apple. It smells very creamy and vanilla-esque, but I can smell apple as well. Looking into the pouch, it didn’t look like enough for two cups to me, so I decided to use the whole 10 grams (somewhere between 2 and 3 teaspoons I think) and made a 12 ounce mug. I have to say, this tea made me quite cranky before I had even tasted it… For some reason, I didn’t realize that there’s chamomile in here, and made the mistake of steeping it in my usual brew basket. Of course, now there are a bunch of teeny chamomile pollen pieces stuck all over the inside of the mesh (chamomile seems to be the Finum brew basket’s sole weakness). Harumph.

Honestly, I’m not finding this tea all that flavorful… Perhaps I should have only made a 10 ounce mug with the sample (which is really quite sad). I can taste vanilla and some creaminess, and there also seems to be some kind of sweetening element here (which I don’t see listed). I can barely taste the apple, mostly just at the end of the sip. Overall, it’s fairly meh for me.

Off-topic, the boyfriend and I are going to his sister’s for Thanksgiving. Her husband has to work and she has a 3-year-old along with a new baby (about 10 weeks I think by now?) so we’re going on Wednesday to help her with all the cooking and such. I volunteered to bring the pies, so I’ve been perusing the web for interesting recipes! Here are the ones I decided upon!

So excited! I’ll be making them tomorrow. :D

It smells amazing, but it gives me a deja vu feeling with an apple tea from a few years back…it gets a little sour as it cools down. It has been mentioned that this is a heavier tea, and that is true. I don’t know if I will repurchase or not. It is goo but not great. I agree that DAVIDs is getting a bit too artificial.

Did I get a bad batch? This tea’s got a good rating!

I’ve always been a fan of DAVIDsTEA until recently. A lot of the newer seasonal teas have been very artificial, this one is no exception.

The smell of this tea is particularly enticing due to vanilla (I’m a sucker for) but overall smells like cupcake frosting. Even after following the steeping proper instructions, I found this tea to be rather un-flavorful and misleading. The apple and custard is nowhere to be found, just a mysterious blend of artificial sweetness.

Dipping into my stash of this tea to make a latte, with caramel drizzled over it – this is something that I’ve been meaning to do since getting my Breville Milk Frother as not only is the one of my favourite teas, but it also makes a DAMN good latte. I was super happy with the latte, and caramel addition – it played really well into that sweet, buttery/creamy apple note and created this “Caramel Apple” sort of profile in latte form. Fucking phenomenal.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

VariaTEA

I think that is how I ended up finishing off this tea.

Evol Ving Ness

Oh yeah, this one does milk really really well. Changes everything.

Kittenna

I have an obscene amount of this tea (I bought 250g plus multiple 25g packs on sale at a later time); I’ve never tried it as a latte but clearly should!

Evol Ving Ness

^ Yeah, you and I must have cleared out the remaining stash once they announced that it was retiring.

Roswell Strange

I think I bought about 500g of it when it came back as an anniversary tea… Probably down to 400g or so now, though.

Kittenna

I may have bought mine in the first go-round. I have a vague recollection of it returning and me being slightly annoyed because I had panic-purchased. That might be where the 25g packs are from, though. But I have no idea. Thankfully, the DT pouches are pretty good at flavour retention, and there’s no coconut!

Roswell Strange

If there’s chamomile in the tea leaf, then you have the old version. The new version from the anniversary collection didn’t have chamomile in it.

Kittenna

Interesting. I didn’t know there was a difference. I suspect mine’s all the old version, then. I dislike chamomile, but thankfully it doesn’t bother me here.

I received a sample of this tea on Oct. 31st and really enjoyed it.
I picked up 50 grams since then and have recently been craving this tea. With the first snow fall here, I figured a hot tea was what i really needed!

I brewed up a cup of apple custard and its just as good as the sample was! It’s creamy and doesn’t have an overwhelming apple taste. It is exactly what I would think apple custard would taste like (although I’ve never had it).

I love this tea! and it’s caffeine free so I can enjoy it all bundled up before bed during these cold winter days. Perfect.

semi last day of tea drinking this month so i wanted to finish off a few more teas since i know there will be some waiting for me when i get home :) Again, i am enjoying this one but not enough to drink more than these couple of cups. also the chamomile is making my strainer angry.

Lindsay

I might have bought some of those tea bag thingies just for chamomile and rooibos, because of the strainer thing.

OMGsrsly

I use bags for chamomile and rooibos, always. Less stuff in my tea, no ridiculous scrubbing of the strainer needed.

Kittenna

I use my metal infusers from DT for chamomile. They let in a few floaties, but cleaning is a breeze.

Sil

well all those are reasonable things.. my finum is fine for rooibos…and i can’t stand paper filters – i always taste the paper. I usually do what kittenna does but the chamomile in this blend just doesn’t stand out to me so i forgot about it both times lol

OMGsrsly

The bags I get aren’t always paper. I mean, I use the paper ones, but I also get non-paper bags from Daiso or Yokoyaya.

Sil

Jones. Mmmmmm ok never seen anything but icky paper

OMGsrsly

I will include some for you.

I had a few of my friends raving over this so I thought I’d give it a try on my last visit to DT. It’s good, but I think my taste buds are tired of apple flavours. I wasn’t as enthusiastic about it as I probably would have been if I hadn’t spent the last few months drinking Sweet Apple Cider and Mom’s Apple Pie. Warm and soothing, yes, but I think I need to back away from apple so that I can learn to appreciate it properly again.
