From DAVIDsTEA

Something magical happens when you combine rich, earthy pu’erh with sweet, juicy orange. Somehow the result is so much more than the sum of its parts – deliciously fresh and fruity, yet undeniably good for you. Whether you sip it hot or over ice, it’s super-soothing and addictively refreshing. With a tea this happy in your arsenal, who knows what else might go your way? Things are looking cup…

Okay, so STORYTIME. Also, first review, heck yeah!

Many moons ago (so, about four years) my wife and I were hanging out with her mom, dad, sister, and sister’s friend and drinking copiously. Her mom got wicked drunk and proceed to make her sister’s poor friend play the guitar while she accompanied him on the piano. She wandered out to the front hall while the rest of us were in the living room and spotted the friend’s bright orange shoes. She absolutely loved them and decided to tell him….by writing it on the side of the soles. With Sharpie. One side of each shoe said “I love your shoes”, and the other said “Orange you glad?” so the one shoe said “I love Orange” and the other said “your shoes you glad?” We were both horrified and amused and I have no idea if she replaced his shoes when she sobered up, but I’m willing to bet she did.

I told that story to justify the purchase of this tea. I was on the fence about it because a) we already have a blood orange pu-erh and b)we’re not huge fans of pu-erh to begin with. But on the website, the tagline for Juicy Orange is Orange You Glad?, so of course we had to pick some up. Sadly, the “Orange You Glad” doesn’t appear on the sticker they put on the bags.

It’s good. Like, better than a pu-erh has any right to be. It’s bright and orangey and the pu-erh kinds rounds it out and adds a depth to the flavor. It is delicious and flavor is brighter than the blood orange, though I enjoy that one too. I will say the flavor is more Tang orange than orange juice, but that’s okay. I like being an astronaut ;)

interesting…this may tempt me to try this one, though i generally am less a fan of davids

Daddyselephant

I am a hardcore DT fan and even I will admit that they’ve been slipping lately. But some of the winter teas are really good and though eggnog was an outright disaster, this sunshine collection looks really promising (though why we need an iced tea collection in the dead of winter is beyond me).

Also, for the record, what keeps me loyal to Davids is the amazing customer service I’ve received from them.

Dustin

Your MIL sounds hilarious! That story makes me want to go drinking with her and see what shenanigans she gets up to.

Sil

oh and your story…. totally reminds me of the drunk nacho story…

Daddyselephant

Hahaha yes, that is very much my MIL and yes, she is great to hang out with, always a blast!

VariaTEA

Aisling, I laughed my way through your tasting note. Your MIL sounds like a lot of fun which is so much better than the horror stories told by so many people about their MILs.

Daddyselephant

She’s great and I have a lot more stories where this one came from. We can’t see anything orange without nudging her and yelling “ORANGE YOU GLAD?” She’s never going to live that one down. The best was Jesse (the friend) awkwardly playing guitar while shooting pleading “HELP ME” looks at my sister in law.

Roswell Strange

I just choked on my Cucumber Roll; but for an awesome reason I suppose. I laughed SO HARD reading that…

Anlina

That is an amazing story. And I might have to try this tea now.

Daddyselephant

I’m gonna have to tell my mother in law that Steepster wants to party with her XD

Plunkybug

What a fun story! I tried this one today, as I needed a pick me up after a day long migraine. It was tasty, but something tasted a little licorice-like, and i got sad. I really wanted to like this one.
