From DAVIDsTEA

Cookie of the year

Happiness is…the smell of gingerbread cookies baking in the oven. Warming up with a perfect cup of tea. And sharing something sweet with your family and friends. And with this sweet and toasty tea, you can have all three at once. We started with a smooth base of rooibos, then added a sweet hint of maple and molasses. Then we warmed it up with spicy cinnamon and crystallized ginger. Finally, we added a dash of yerba maté for an energizing kick. With this in your tea cupboard, happiness is just a steep away…

Day 23/24 of advent calendar. This tea was really disappointing. The leaves smelled great – I got a nice whiff of maple syrup – but the tea itself was tasteless, except for the rooibos. Ugh!

I found that this smelled and tasted nice but I wish it didn’t include the maple sugar and white chocolate. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised having maple sugar and white chocolate in a tea that has ‘cookie’ in the name.

I don’t like adding sugar to my tea. Even if I did want sugar I would rather add it myself then to have it included in the tea.

World’s most useless tasting note commences now. I forgot I tried this in the store on Boxing Day. I never bought any because the maté generally makes me sad. The sales associate approached me with a tray of samples, chirping that she had… some other fruity blend to try, then paused, and said, “…wait, or maybe this is Gingerbread Cookie…” just as I was about to take a sip. I then confirmed, yep, this must be Gingerbread Cookie. It was truly hilarious.

And you know what? It was alright. I think the above anecdote at least kind of tells that its name is appropriate. I could taste that molasses bite in there. No maté, thankfully, and even the rooibos base wasn’t crazy. I would have liked a little more gingerbread flavour. From memory, it is quite similar to their Gingerbread rooibos offering last year, although I swear the rooibos isn’t as prominent in this one.

Good background ginger flavor but I can definitely taste all the artificial additives in here.

Day #20 of tea!

I was waiting for this one to show up! At first taste, this is pretty much the same flvaour profile that the rooibos Gingerbread had, except now with added mate, haha. It definitely takes like cookies, though, to me, the ‘gingerbread’ part of it is a little more muted than I would ideally like it to be. There was a lot of leaf in my sample tin, so I foresse a few more cups of this one. Mmm.

This tea is great! Especially with brown sugar. Would repurchase if it came back next Holiday season :)

Anyone who doesn’t like this must be insane. This tastes exactly like a gingerbread cookie. It even has the cookie after taste. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dry leaf aroma smells like red rooibos. The brewed tea aroma smells about the same. The flavor? Sweet rooibos. Where the ginger? Where’s the mate? Where’s the cookie? This is disappointing. Maybe I shouldn’t have followed the brewing instructions, which call for 185°F water. I’ve got to say that surprised me. I expected it to be boiling.

There’s a bit of maple in here. No pineapple, currants, or white chocolate even though the ingredients list says those are in here. I don’t know what kind of gingerbread cookies DAVIDsTEA staff are used to eating, but you wouldn’t find any of those ingredients in MY gingerbread cookies. And why did DAVIDsTEA label this as a mate tea when it’s mostly rooibos? This whole tea confounds me. It’s not bad it’s just nothing like what it’s advertised to be. If you like sweet rooibos teas, then you’ll like this. For myself, I’m glad I only got a free sample and not more.

Uggh I suspected this tea would be a disappointment. It should have been a black!

Kristal

Regarding the labeling- it’s like their “detox tea”- its mostly rooibos but has green tea and is therefore marketed as a green.

Your tasting note of this tea summed up how I felt about last years gingerbread tea (or was it 2 years ago?)…

CHAroma

I had high hopes because the picture of the leaves looked like there was lots of ginger in it. So at the very least, I expected a spicy ginger tea. No ginger. No cookie. Boo!

I’m not generally a fan of mate but for whatever reason, in this particular tea, it actually works for me. I suspect it’s because it’s a blend with rooibos. I don’t like this enough to want it in my cupboard permanently but it’s nice – a good balance of gingerbread to make it come across much like a cookie would.

So, last year I believe it was, Davidstea had a gingerbread tea that I was so in love with. I think I have enough for one more latte. That’s what I did with that tea. All 100g was enjoyed in latte form. Yummmmmmmm Thankfully I only use 2 perfect spoons for my lattes so it lasted for a bit longer.

Anyways, I am super excited for the as it smells almost the exact same to me! The only thing I don’t like is that it has mate in it! Why couldn’t we just have it as a rooibos that way I had something to enjoy in the evenings? Sad panda…

Now that I’ve tried it… it is so much like last year’s that I’m in love. I won’t know for sure until I made a latte with it, but it’s seems pretty much the same Yumm!! Just the mate this year would make it slightly different.

Either way, I hopefully will enjoy my 100g

Kristal

Really looking forward to trying this! I don’t mind mate, but I agree I think this one should have been just rooibos cause I prefer my lattes to be caffeine free as well.

TheKesser

Yeah I definitely think it would have been fine without the mate. I don’t mind some caffeine in my lattes, but sometimes I want one after dinner and my list of options caffeine free after dinner is so small.

Kristal

I drink mostly caffeine free stuff (1-2 cups of green tea in the morning then herbals/rooibos and occasionally decaf green for the rest of the day) and for lattes I use 4 perfect spoonfuls (10tsp!) of leaf so if my lattes have caffeine I would have the jitters and my belly might hurt :(. So for this tea I’ll probably never end up making it into a latte due to too much caffeine

Dan

The mate is not noticeable in this blend.. And it’s last on the ingredient list! Likely very, very minute amounts of stimulants in the tea. Drink up!
