From DAVIDsTEA

This luscious all-natural blend of sweet mango, creamy coconut and ethically sourced Indian turmeric isn’t just delicious hot or iced – every 50 g / 2 oz purchase gives two weeks of clean water to a developing community in India. What’s more, we sprinkled in warm traditional spices like ginger and cardamom. The result? A flavourful fruity twist on chai that’s as rich and vibrant as the country you’re giving back to.

Price per 50g: $8.98

New tea alert! (I’m a touch late is posting it though – this has been out for a while now.)

Firstly, I just have to say that it feels really nice working for a company that makes an effort to contribute to organizations like the WE Foundation; being a socially conscious consumer is important and I like that we have teas that allow us to do that. It would be great to see more expansion of that way of thinking with future teas, such as sourcing more Fair Trade blends, or partnering with other charitable groups with future teas. This is a really good branch on that tree though.

Flavour wise, I think this is really interesting! It’s basically like a fruity, herbal Chai; lots of mango and coconut and then some turmeric, black pepper, and cardamom for a spicier kick too. There’s other stuff like hibiscus and ginger but personally I only really tasted the ingredients I first mentioned, which makes sense because though are the main ingredients. Coconut/mango is a pairing I adore (especially as a sticky rice topping) that it made me really exciting when I saw that in the blend – and I like that the mangoes used in this blend come from India also. It’s very sweet, very vibrant and has a kind of exotic, tropical flair to it. The spices are not overwhelming and just provide some needed heat and depth to the blend. Turmeric is definitely the strongest of them; which makes sense because the whole bloody blend has this intense yellow tint to it. I’ve only had it iced so far, but I think it just works. I can imagine a hot cup would have the same very rich, prominent mango top notes with coconut accents that the iced cup has, maybe with a little more of the ginger/cardamom? I don’t know – I’ll have to try it.

Is it my favourite herbal? No. Do I like it more than our original ME to WE blend? No. However, it’s still quite good and I feel really good about drinking it and the support it provides. 50g of this is two weeks of clean drinking water to someone in a developing community in India; and that’s good because not only do you need water for drinking but it helps lead to better agricultural practices (food!), sanitation, and keeps girls from missing out on an education because they were spending their day hauling water to their community. All around win!

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

In store sample

Out of the three I sampled today, this was my favourite: mango, banana, coconut.
Delightful.

I imagine this is a heavy tea. I’ve been down this road before where suddenly you realize that you are spending five dollars at DTs to make a decent cup at home. Not that I know that would be the case with this particular tea, but based on previous experience, I am guessing.

Flavors: Coconut, Mango

I was told I should be buying at least $4 worth to make my cup at home. However, I bought $2.50 worth and used half of it for a litre jug of cold brew. The other half is going to be a hot latte. So, I don’t think you really have to use a on of this one. It made a litre of coldbrew in about 30 minutes and it was quite flavourful.

Oh, that’s reassuring. Thanks. I might pick some up.

I can taste the spices a little more today, but I still wish it was a little stronger. The mango and coconut are still the stars of the show. I only brewed it because I had a tea bag ready at work and it was getting gross looking (the oils, from the coconut probably, leech through the bag). I don’t think I’m in the fruity mood today, but it’s not the tea’s fault.

This blend just makes the most fabulous latte. I wish it wasn’t so heavy/bulky because it is very expensive in terms of price per cup. But I do love this blend and I hope they keep selling it. Nothing like a cup of spices, coconut, pineapple, mango, and ginger.

Ah! I was perusing notes to see if someone tried this as a latte. I thought it would fare well. I need to try this with the rest of my sample.

Be careful if you’re going to make a latte with it – there is hibiscus in this blend (though not a terribly large amount), so sometimes this one does curdle. It’s a hit/miss situation.
