From DAVIDsTEA

Here’s a floral-scented pearl of wisdom: Hand-rolling tea is a tradition that began over 1300 years ago, when a Chinese emperor wanted to give an original gift of love. Our gift to you is this organic white tea, lightly scented with jasmine flowers and hand-rolled into delicate pearls that gently unfurl as they steep. Breathe deeply and let your mind — and pearls — expand.

Organic: Rolled white tea from Fujian Province, scented with jasmine flowers.

Price per 50g: $19.98

This is the other one I lost my tasting note for, so no number and just general impressions. I also marked this as “liked and would consider repurchasing” in my own spreadsheet.

My impressions of this were that the jasmine was quite strong, especially in comparison to the silk dragon jasmine, which was interesting. It also had a bitter note to it though that kept me from totally falling in love. I wouldn’t be disappointed to try this again, and I may need to just to get a better note!

Adventaggedon Day Twenty Three – 1/6

Gongfu!

Well, if I wasn’t already exhausted this advent season, the cold that I’ve spontaneously come down with isn’t making matters easier. Though, I’ve tested negative a couple times today for COVID so there is that silver lining. Basically, on top of feeling exhausted I’m also very sore and achy, my throat burns, and I’m so stuffed up that I can barely smell.

Obviously this is totally the optimal way to be drinking teas.

What I ended up doing was basically bingeing vapor rub and cough drops until I would get to a point where I was “destuffed” enough to smell/taste and then I would try to cram in an advent tea while that window was open. I barely managed to get through all my teas today, but I did it! Hopefully tomorrow is better.

This gongfu session was short, because of all the aforementioned issues, but it was really good! I do prefer DT’s Jasmine Black Pearls but the Zen Pearls are very pleasant too. The first couple steeps had such a syrupy liquor with very fresh and lush sweet notes of jasmine. I got daring a few times and tried to push the steep time longer to get more flavour, and it just resulted in bitterness. When I was patient, though, I found this tea rewarded me for that!

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Oh no, you got the crud that is going around. I was very tired for a few days, and seemed to have fought it off now. Get some rest and heal up!
