From DAVIDsTEA

Cool sophistication

You won’t want anything else for dessert when you taste this tea. Even the aroma is totally satisfying. Minty fresh, with hints of dark chocolate and rich vanilla. Pour it and admire the coppery red of the rooibos, filled to the brim with antioxidants. Then take a sip and sink into its velvety sweetness. You can’t help but fall in love.

My mom bought a little bit of this for me as a surprise the other day, and I decided to try some today!

The first thing I noticed smelling it dry in the bag was that it has a very artificial scent to it. David’s website doesn’t say whether the “chocolate mint flavouring” they use is natural or artifical, and I don’t know if it’s the chocolate whiff’s or peppermint whiff’s that are putting me off, but it reminds me of really bad chocolate mint cookies… not off to a very good start.

A little trepidatious, I only used half a teaspoon when brewing and was careful with my brewing time even though I usually let rooibos brew for as long as I want. The liquor, a dark reddish brown, ended up with much the same artificial scent as the dry tea; none of the rooibos or vanilla comes through. Taste-wise, the mint chocolate is seriously overpowering, and not in a good way like the cinnamon in David’s Cinnamon Rooibos Chai. I guess most of it comes down to personal preference and taste, but I was pretty disappointed in this tea. I’m normally a fan of chocolate and mint together, but there’s just such an artificial (or at least, what I can only describe as artificial) taste to this that I can’t enjoy it or finish my cup.

So yummy! The rooibos is a great balancer to the mint, which seems to over-power the chocolate flavor. The liquor is coppery and the brew is very smooth – definitely a nice alternative to straight mint.

I was very excited when I bought this tea, so much so, that I didn’t realize how strong the rooibos tea smell was. When I went to make my first cup it really hit me as I was expecting more of a mint chocolaty scent. When I tried it for the first time, I noticed the rooibos taste is stronger in this tea than in some of the other DAVIDs rooibos teas (such as Oh Canada and Birthday Cake). It had a woodsy taste that ends with the taste of mint. I find if I think about it I can taste the mint chocolate flavor but when I am not focused I don’t really notice the chocolate at all (perhaps its a mind over matter situation). Ultimately, I like this tea enough to not regret purchasing it but I do not think I will be buying it again.

I was downtown not long ago and felt like having tea. I wanted to taste something new and this is one I had never tried.
I am usually not in love with mint and after eight.
I gave it a try. It was sweetened with Agave.
I must say that I was surprised. It tasted really good.
I will for sure buy it again.

Since I’m a fan of chocolate and mint, I decided to buy this tea. The taste is refreshing and there is some sweetness as well. There is a more minty taste than a chocolaty taste. I prefer to add soy milk to it which gets rid of some of the bitter taste from it.

MMmm this is the ideal after-dinner tea! I just had it along with a christmas red velvet cupcake from Magnolia Bakery and it was a match made in heaven! The best of everything all at once and only a few days until christmas!

Red velvet + mint chocolate sounds like the best Christmas combo ever. Cannot wait to do that when Christmas rolls around again (which is usually does before we know it). :)

I can’t stand rooibos.

Obvisouly I didn’t know that when I purchased this one. Actually it was part of my first order from David’s Tea and I was attracted to the mint and the chocolate, always a winning combination for me ! When I opened the bag, having no idea what rooibos was or tasted like, the smell put me off. I liked the minty chocolate but there was something else there… something almost medicinal… and now I know it’s rooibos.

This one is not too bad, though. It does taste like mint and chocolate and the flavor of rooibos is not TOO present, meaning I will eventually finish my 25g bag. But I’ll be happy to say goodbye when the time comes and won’t re-stock.

Weirdly, what I like the best about this tea is that afterwards, my mug smells incredible. No rooibos at all, in fact not even mint : just chocolate. I can’t explain why but it’s just amazing. I almost only want to drink it for the smell it leaves on my mug, lol !

so last week Davids Tea had those gifts that were 2 for $40 right? I purchased the Sweet Indulgence box and the Caffeine – Free Box. Both had teas that I was some into and honestly I also just wanted to splurge on myself:) Then I got my box, I didnt realize how small of a sample I get of the different teas! The little tins are so small! You may be get one or two tablespoons of each! I was very disappointed, but at least I have somewhat get to taste certain one. The little tins are cute to keep in your purse too.

Anyways, out of the Caffeine Free Box I grabbed this tea and reading the reviews made me get a craving for Thin Mints. The smell is divine, its sweet but rich, and has hint of mint. it reminds me of Lush’s lip balm Honey Trap. Looking at the reviews; I was aiming to steep it for 4 minutes and 30 seconds…but ended up steeping it at 7…I wasnt too worried because usually Im tolerant to Rooibos.

I was wrong…7 minutes, too freaking long. So after steeping it for that long it smells Medicine-y… :( The taste of course…medicine-y then turns into minty-chocolatey….which tastes good and I get that cool feeling from the mint. But damn, that first taste of medicine sucks, eck…

Im half way through my cup, I should add milk to it but Im in my bed, with my laptop, and my dogs beside me..oh well. I have one more serving for this and I really want to like this tea
