So the other day I accidently bought unsweetened chocolate almond milk. I am crazy for chocolate almond milk but this unsweetened version is just so disappointing. So it has been delegated to dessert tea duty.

This blend from Della Terra is probably my favourite chocolate tea that I’ve tried so far. It’s really rich and has a great dark chocolate scent and flavour. I used to keep my packet of this at the office and whenever I had it brewing at my desk, without fail someone would ask what smelled so intoxicatingly delicious. Brownies? Cookies? Is someone somehow baking a chocolate torte? Nope, just my tea.

With the added chocolate almond milk and the tiny spoon of sugar I snuck in, this is absolutely decadent. Just soo good. Definitely need to make another Della Terra order soon.

Indigobloom

I got one sweetened with Stevia! I didn’t realize it til opening my package. bleh.
Spice and Tea Exchange make a great chocolate tea as well but it’s a tad astringent for me

Shmiracles

i purchase unsweetened almond milk because then i can add as much or little sweetener as i want, but i can COMPLETELY see how having the unsweet version unexpectedly would be like drinking paper.
it sounds like you’ve found the PERFECT use for it!
i’m gonna add this tea to my shopping list. yum

this was a grand share from ShortSorceress. thank you kindly, ma’am!

i am trying so hard to reduce sugar in my life which is not an easy thing for me; given the choice between cheesecake and chips i’ll always swap my wife her cake for my chips so i can have two pieces! however, given that despite my red mowhawk my next birthday is 38, i figured maybe i should eat a tad more responsibly.

i have a costco membership. it would be bonkers to buy sugar there under normal circumstances (what, an 80 pound bag? lol) as i stumbled through the inconveniently unlabeled aisles i noticed bottled pairs of agave syrup for 9.99$. that’s supposed to be a great alternative to sugar. it’s way sweeter than white granulated, which means i can use less. except it doesn’t seem to work that way. i use just as much if not more. damn.

so i thought i’d try to cut it out all together starting with this tea! it’s a very nice smooth blend. deeply, darkly chocolate. lovely even without sugar (although i did add cream). very rich, definitely decadent, reminds me of chocolate mousse. i didn’t miss the sugar at all!

i’m not sugar free… but if you are trying to reduce your sugar intake i highly recommend this one =0)

I received this tea as part of the chocolate tea samples from Della Terra months ago but never got around to trying this one for some strange reason. I’m not a huge fan of most chocolate teas because I just find them to be lacking a bit so I guess you can take this review with a grain of salt…

The aroma smells really nice and authentic like a big cup of cocoa. Typical of most chocolate teas I’ve tried I just find the flavor to be a bit thin and I’m wondering what the point is. I did find the flavor was helped along a bit by the addition of soymilk and some rock sugar because I felt like it needed something. I don’t think I have any reason to buy this as long as I have a huge tin of “Florence” still sitting around.

My favorite in the Della Terra chocolate line has to be the “chocolate covered strawberry” but they are currently out of it. I would like to get more of that someday. ;)

This is very chocolatey, obviously, with a name like that.
But again the base is ruining it for me, the base combined with DTT’s chocolate flavoring makes a lot of their teas taste the same to me.
I had rated it 82 once upon a time but that no longer applies.

I don’t need to own this anymore.
To the swap pile with ye!

Courtney

I agree about DTT. I enjoy trying their teas, but rarely do I ever enjoy them enough to keep them around.

ohfancythat

It’s funny because when I first started on here I was alllllll over DTT.
Now I am less than impressed, mostly.

I really like chocolate teas but didn’t like this one so much. Was just chocolate. I suppose I like the others because they were chocolate blends and not just plain? If you know what I mean? with this one I just wondered why I grabbed tea and not hot chocolate.
I suppose I got what the tea asked for and my poor rating is based on personal preference and not the tea itself, but I rate based on what I like after all so I’m okay with that. I’ve been sampling too much della terra and should go back to my favs which are amazing.

I just ordered this. Thanks for the review…it will help my expectations!

I have to agree with you on this. I enjoy some of DT’s chocolate blends greatly (chocolate orange slice!). Dubbele fell short of my expectations:(.

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge – February Tea #9: A tea flavored like your favorite muffin
additional notes:  I wouldn’t say I have a favorite muffin flavor – I like most flavors!  Though this tea specifically came to mind as “double chocolate” because I like those chocolate muffins with melty chocolate chunks — more like a big ol piece of morning chocolate cake.  haha As a tea, this isn’t great – very light base - how could that be with a chocolate flavor.  The chocolate flavor reminds me a bit of the creamy chocolate in like a Russell Stover type truffle, but I do remember it had the distinct flavor of something chemical like gasoline, when this sample wasn’t ancient so this tea was never a favorite.  But I’m surprised at revisiting my rating of 87 here. Wow, my original note really mentioned that I enjoyed this one. It was great to sipdown for the prompt though.  Another tea I was thinking of for this prompt was 52Teas Cranberry Orange Cider — I like cranberry orange muffins too!

Stargate sipdown. I didn’t think I liked chocolate teas, but Della Terra kept insisting that I did. This smells really nice. The flavour is like having a creamy hot chocolate.

After having their other chocolate teas, this one is a little plain. It’s still good.

Stargate and chocolate? Sounds like a good time!

Oh man is this ever chocolatey. Rich, dark, luscious chocolate. I wasn’t sure of the steep time so I kept it rather low, and I’m glad I did as I’m sure it would’ve gotten bitter otherwise.

Lovely way to start off a busy morning.
