Thanks to Della Terra Teas for this free sample! I won it in a contest! It was so exciting! Now on to the tea.

The first time I made this tea, I skimped on the amount of tea I steeped. I immediately regretted it, for the flavor was just not strong enough. I knew it would be much better if I added more leaves, but of course, I was running late to class so I did not have time to fix it.

I finally had time to try this tea again steeping a little more tea. IT IS DELICIOUS!! This tea tastes like you are actually eating a slice of apple pie. I added a little bit of honey to the tea, and it definitely helped it taste even more like pie! Now usually I am not a huge fan of apple flavored teas, but Della Terra definitely did a good job with this one! I love it!

One of the teas I got in my first Della Terra order.

I was quite anxious to try Della Terra once my Fall-sweet tooth kicked in. (Which is now essentially over. Now I want spicy things. Chai teas, and homemade speculaas cookies!) since people seemed to have far more respect for them than they do for DavidsTea.

While I will say that the quality is better than that of Davids, to be honest, I’m still not a gigantic fan. Don’t get me wrong, the flavoring itself is quite good, but after being spoiled rotten by the quality of Butiki and Verdant for the past several months, I find I just don’t really enjoy it as much as I would’ve a year or two ago. The flavoring is quite good, but the base tea tastes really cheap. It gets bitter if I steep it any hotter than 185 degrees, and I’m accustomed to either boiling or 200 degree temperature for my blacks.

It’s a shame, because the flavoring is REALLY good. It’s so apple-y and real tasting. It doesn’t taste like candy apple, it tastes like APPLES loaded with cinnamon which is major YUM but the base tea just isn’t up to the same standard as the quality of the flavoring. If this flavoring was to be paired up with a quality of tea like Butiki or Verdant, we’d have a real winner here.

Regardless, this still helped my sweet cravings earlier this month, so even if it wasn’t as enjoyable as I hoped, mission accomplished at least. :)

This is another one of those teas that smells like Autumn. I do so like the apples and cinnamon. The flavour is a nice blend of apples and spices. Another good dessert tea.

Mmmmm. Apple pie. Della Terra really got this blend dead on. Sometimes spices in tea can get muddled and bland, even though they smell good, but the classic apple pie blend doesn’t have any of these issues. I requested this as my free 2 oz when they were running a sale a couple weeks ago (free 2 oz with $35 purchase? And 10% off $30 or more? How could I say no?), and I’m really glad I did. I put some brown sugar into the tea, and it really complements all of the flavors. It’s like liquid candy, liquid fall dessert.

Certainly smell the cinnamon and some other spice when opening.
For taste, I just don’t get enough of the apple. Very hard for me to place it when I take a sip. Slightly bitter to me. Spices I can taste but certainly in the background to the black tea itself. I’m just not feeling this one.

Had an awesome BBQ party today! Since we didn’t have any desserts, I’m indulging in some tea now to make up for it.

The dry tea has a cinnamon smell, and you can see little bits of dried apples and raisins.
The brew is the typical black tea color, smells like apples and cinnamon, but I’m not associating it to apple pie. The tea tastes wonderfully like apples, with just a hint of the spices, not sweet but leaning more towards savory.

Nice tea, will be trying this sweetened someday to see if it gives off a more apple pie taste.

Made this tea getting ready for work and looking for something a bit sweet to get me moving. The smell of it is great, truely appley, but the smell of almonds from the almond slices was there too. I was concerned that there might be a lack of ‘pie’-ness to it because crust as a liquid didn’t jive in my head. After one glass both my husband and I were impressed. I’m on my third cup from the same leaves now and I’m in LOVE. When resteeped it becomes so much lighter the it originally is, since its a black tea. I would willingly buy this again, but luckily I’ve got a big bag of it. Great choice for an item in my mystery box.
