From Fortnum & Mason

British Prime Minister Earl Grey gave his name to this hugely popular tea back in the 1830s, and has since been thought of as a classic English afternoon tea. Its flavour is made up of simple black tea flavoured with stimulating oil of bergamot.

Tasting Notes
Our version of this ever-popular blend, created by our tea experts some 90 years after Earl Grey’s teatime debut. A refreshing tea with abundant citrus notes, it pairs perfectly with rich sweet or savoury flavours – from dark chocolate to spiced lamb.

I bought the loose leaf version of this tea and I love it!
The bergamot fragrance is on point, as it is very present yet very subtle. I did notice a slightly smoky flavour, that despite being not displeasing at all, rather surprised me. I suspect it has been kept near some Lapsang Souchong in the Piccadilly store.

With this classic Earl Grey Fortnum & Mason have managed to hit the sweet spot. The Bergamont dominates the aroma, but the citrus is present and refreshing. I prefer to steep nearly for 5 minutes. Then I will have delicious golden colour with a distinct taste. A classic Earl Grey.

A perfectly fine Earl Grey. Strong on the bergamot. Doesn’t knock my socks off but then again I don’t really want that from an Earl Grey in the morning.

Paid HK$130 (roughly GBP11, USD17) for 125g.
It is a good, tasty Earl Grey tea.
A subtle but noticeable bergamot flavor from natural oil, and a quiet but strong black tea base.
However, as it is rather expensive, I say bring this tea out when you have company.

Quite possibly one of the best Earl Grey blends I have ever tasted. The scent of bergamot is very fresh, vibrant and fragrant and the texture is very smooth. I had the tea bag and you can brew one bag a several times and it will still be very flavorful. Very easy to brew. Hard to ruin this tea.

Everyone seems to love this tea but I didn’t really find it impressive… perhaps it was because I was having the bagged version instead of the loose leaves. I was actually a bit shocked to see that they use almost dust-grade leaves for the tea bag… so the tea was a pretty strong brew after 3 minutes. Perhaps too strong for my liking I should say! The bergamot flavour was ok though.

A bold take on this classic black tea with powerful citrus notes that contribute to an almost medicinal-like flavour profile – for those who like their Earl Grey strong :)

The best Earl Grey (in a tin) I´ve ever bought. If you ever want to have a complete Earl Grey experience, with the bergamot fragrance all over, this is the one to prepare. Quite pricey, but considering the enjoyment, worth every bit of it.
