Rose. A Rose is a ROSE is a Rose…or is it? I can’t help but think of Teavana’s Rose Marzipan Delight that I fell in love with a few months ago and then found out it was discontinued. Some Rose Teas I have had seem really bitter so when I feel in love with Teavana’s it was because they had that little bit of candied goodness to off set the bitterness. Well, take out the Candied goodness and THIS is what you have. Not that THAT is a bad thing. This tea is actually quite good. It’s not bitter and the black tea and rose compliment each other very nicely. Thumbs up!

The sweet, hypnotic scent of roses rises from this very pretty tea decorated with rose petals. At a 3:30 minute steep it brews up black and produces a sweet rose-flavored brew. The taste is reminiscent of fine halavah made with rose water. The tea blends well with the rose flavor but its taste is not very prominent.

I bought a canister of this after trying the sample and I’m glad I did. However, it is not an everyday tea. It is something that demands quiet sipping time and space.

Mmm I love halavah and this tea sounds delicious. :)

Rich, sweet, not soapy or perfumy. A really lovely rose tea.

Another sample from Ricky, thank you.
Upon my first pokes in the package I failed to realize that the items were in fact labeled. Silly me. Had I noticed I would have pounced on the Yunan first. I have been dying to try a cup of that for months now. No matter Rose won out as I am a sucker for flavored and flowery teas especially when surrounded by unruly men/boys.

First sniff left me wondering if it would be soapy or perfumed and bitter. The fragrance reminded me a bit of these plastic roses I had inherited from my great grandmother and they sat all my childhood life on my vanity. Roses, powder and a most calming black tea earthiness was the combo that assailed my nose. With the addition of water, the fragrance was no different a rich wonderful tea entwined with delicate rose. To me, the scent was pleasant and not overly annoying.

This tea mixes well with dark chocolate hot cocoa mix and if you want to get rid of any annoying odor in those plastic tea mug lids, this tea will do it.

Taken with a sprinkle of sugar.
As with the vast majority of Golden Moon teas this blend demonstrates a balance between flavoring agent and tea. Neither fight for dominance. Both can be tasted. Which is awesome and something I think more blending professionals should aspire to.
It seems that the rose is the balancing part of the tea. First hint is of an almost tin-ie (for all of you non-musicians out there tin-ie is a description for a sound that has no resonance… most commonly piccolos and trumpets… you know… the annoying instruments ;p ) black tea. After that the rose flavor develops over the black tea base.
Obviously this is extremely floral but the rose flavoring does not become a perfumed mess when chilled which is nice.
What makes this blend work though is a tertiary flavor that reminds me of teas that are defined as smoky. Think Lapsang super duper light. I honnestly don’t know if this is a quality in the leaves they chose to blend with or if they added a bit of oil or what-not but I’m pretty sure that’s what keeps the flavor in this blend together.
Anyways… pleasant treat!

GM sample 22/31
I haven’t been a fan of rose tea in the past. Most I’ve tried have been tiptoeing the line between tea and brownish perfume. So I was kinda of skeptical at first of trying this tea. Especially after opening the package the rose smell was pretty strong. I strongly expected to gag on this.
However after steeping the rose mellowed out a lot. The fragrance is just strong enough to complement the tea without overwhelming it. Taste is smooth not unlike flower petals, with just a floral aftertaste. Is this something i would drink everyday, no. However I would drink this tea again, sometime in the spring :P

It has changed my mind on rose teas! I had a rose tea from Numi that kind of turned me off. With how rich it is, it reminds me of this pound cake I threw some rose water in. I loved it iced. It’s a nice floral, slightly sweet. I could see this at an English afternoon tea while sitting in a cottage garden.

OMG..this isn’t tea, its perfume. Two sips and I couldn’t carry on.
I gave it to a friend to try…He couldn’t drink it either. His comment: “It reminds me of soap…”.
He had the 1st steep, I had the second…I can’t imagine what the first was like….

Really smells like roses. Quite surprising.

MMMmmmmm yumm it’s really yummy. I didn’t know that roses taste so good :)
It’s a strong yet gentle flavor. Very overwhelming. Very good black flavored tea. Maybe even best one so far. Definitely best one with flower-flavor. Rose totally beats jasmine for me…
I’d buy this one again and i’d buy it as a very nice gift too. Thumbs up Golden Moon…
