From Green Terrace Teas

Grown at about 1,200 meters in the rich soil of the Alishan region, this tea is a wonderful introduction to oolong teas from Taiwan. Sweet, rich and aromatic, Four Seasons Spring Oolong (or Si Ji Chun) has a pleasant buttery and honey taste that evokes mild notes of jasmine and lily. This oolong as a mild vegetal character and has almost no bitterness – a great tea for any time of the day.

Nantou Four Seasons by In Pursuit of Tea was the first type of oolong I ever tried, and it made me fall in love. This one is no different. It definitely didn’t disappoint! I used the whole package in my 120ml/4 oz yixing pot and at first it was a bit bitter and I realized I wasn’t getting much tea. I opened my pot up and realized that there were so many leaves crammed in there I could have filled the pot twice!! Once I removed half the leaves the sweet floral shined right through. Moral of the story: weight my leaves next time! :P

I’m still trying to sip-down all of my samples and, quite frankly, not making much head-way. Thankfully I was craving an oolong this afternoon, so I randomly picked one of the GTT 1/2 brewed samples that I have laying around.

I brewed Western this time, as I did gong-fu previously, and I find oolongs tend to shine one way or the other so I like to try both. This time the first thing I noticed was a scent of kettle corn and a strong hit of cinnamon. That’s a new one for a green oolong! But, oh, is it lovely! It’s creamy and sweet and green with that cinnamon hanging out throughout the sip. I didn’t find floral notes this time which is surprising. (ETA – Second steep is showing some lovely peppery lavender) Still it’s absolutely lovely to sip. I think I prefer this one Western, that cinnamon note is very surprising.

Green Terrace has such lovely oolongs. I only wish they offered smaller sizes in them all. Some have a minimum 150g which is just too large for me, sadly. I’ll definitely consider ordering this one in the future though.

This is an amazing oolong and I need to get more to experiment with it. I only had enough to try it twice. The first time I steeped it grandpa style in a travel mug and after about an hour it took on really intense cinnamon and honey notes – it was like liquid baklava. I steeped it differently the second time and got different results. I need to see if I can get that baklava flavour again.

Might have to pull the trigger and get a bit more of this. That sounds so amazing. I’d never have thought to do it Grandpa style.

Anlina

They sell it in 50g, so that’s not too bad.

Oh, I didn’t even notice that! The other ones I looked at were all 150g. I just bought a sweet glass carafe so I could grandpa steep, so maybe I’ll treat myself by picking some up.

Finally getting around to trying these samples. Only took me forever. But I’m doin’ it!
I’ve always wanted to try a Four Seasons oolong. Teavana had one that I’d been interested in, but I didn’t wanna spent like 17 bucks on tea that I don’t even know I’ll like. xD
So when I saw that this Four Seasons was a sample I figured I’d try it, so I can maybe get an idea of what other Four Seasons oolongs might taste like…
I don’t know what I was expecting from this tea, but the initial veggie flavor didn’t really thrill me too much. But as I continued to drink a floral, almost jasmine taste came out. Which was quite nice.
I think I’m mainly just used to roasted oolongs than veggie/floral kind, so this one seemed weird to me. Glad I tried it though!
Thanks for the samples, Green Terrace Teas! :D

This is the second of my free samples from Green Terrace Teas for reviewing.

I needed something nice this morning while relaxing and waiting for my husband to get up. Usually, he sleeps about an hour or so longer than I do, so I really have time to enjoy several cups of tea. Today, he was up not long after me and wanted to go out for breakfast. So I had a couple of infusions before breakfast and a few after we got back.

This is another very nice green oolong. It’s sweet and floral with a really nice mouth feel. It’s more buttery than creamy. I really am enjoying this one.

I’m not rating this one, as Green Terrace Teas sent this one my way even though i’d only asked for two samples from them. I hate adding to my cupboard or wasting teas that i don’t think i’d really enjoy. I’m guessing they had room in the envelope. Soooo i’m drinking this even though i don’t generally prefer oolongs as a thank you for their generosity. I wholeheartedly appreciate it when companies do this sort of thing so that i get a chance to try their teas without having to commit to a HUGE purchase.

Sooo this is a green oolong. It had a floral scent to it that had me a little worried but brewed up, this isn’t overly floral. There’s a nice balance of sweetness here to go along with the floral. It doesn’t have that distinctive OOLONG taste that i dislike either. I think anyone who loves oolongs would find this a really pleasant cup of tea to drink.

thanks so much Green Terrace teas!

This is my first time trying a Four Seasons oolong, so yet again, I’m very excited by these samples from Green Terrace Teas. They are vacuum packed in gold foil pouches that are lovely and keep the tea very well stored.

Brewing this Gongfu style in a gaiwan, after an initial rinse, the aroma of the leaves is very rich with scents of honey, custard, cinnamon and apples. It smells a bit like a pecan pie or apple pie or some other delicious pastry. It is heavenly. The taste is mild and sweet with the same qualities.

The second steeping tastes lightly floral with hints of toasted pecans and cream. It has a wonderful warm and mild flavor, quite balanced with the floral and nutty tones on opposing ends of the taste spectrum. By the third steeping, the flavor is more floral, but it is very easy on the tongue and not overly strong. It is still also very creamy and mildly sweet. The lingering aftertaste is very nice. Four steepings in the floral qualities emerge a bit more, still underscored by a caramel-like sweetness. Fifth steeping is less floral and more of the sweet honey and nutty flavors with a bit of caramel apple, becoming once again very mellow. I think this tea is at its best in the early and late steepings when the floral notes are more subdued.

I think this is a wonderful Four Seasons oolong and I recommend it. It has a very clean taste and a sweet and balanced flavor.

I brewed it for 15 seconds in a gaiwan, adding 15 seconds each time at 194F/90C with 4.5g of tea per 100ml of water.

I couldn’t wait to try some of my free samples from Green Terrace Teas. I never had a Four Seasons oolong before. Dry it smelled like Jin Xuan, very milk and sweet smelling. Brewed for 1 min at 195F. I didn’t brew in my yixing teapot as it’s so new and still sucking all the flavour out of my oolongs. I can’t give a proper review with that teapot until it starts giving back.

Brewed up it was buttery , sweet, smooth, and vegetal. I detected very light floral jasmine notes. An excellent oolong. Thank-you Green Terrace Teas for the free sample.
