From Harney & Sons

In honor of our new shop in Manhattan, we are introducing our SoHo Blend. Emeric Harney, the store manager, came up with this flavored black tea concoction. It has flavors of Chocolate and Coconut.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this sample, mostly because I have such mixed feelings about chocolate tea, but this is delicious! It’s like a rich, buttery tea with a touch of macaroon. I don’t know if the pink flower petals are contributing anything to the flavor, but the they do dress up the leaves

This is a very delicious tea! Before it I tried Earl Grey Creme by Teavana and was wondering if there was a similar tasting tea but without the bergamot. I think I almost found it!

There was a pleasant creamy taste to this tea and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Then I read the reviews on Steepster and discovered that it is coconut! Usually I am not a big fan of coconut but in this tea it is very good!

Will be stocking this in my cupboard!

Another tribute tea for John Harney. This one given to me by the awesome, mj1851. Thanks so much! (:
Couldn’t really taste much coconut in this one, but it was definitely chocolatey! Ah, I do love a good, rich chocolate tea! ^^ I’ll definitely have to buy this!

I made a super concentrate from this and poured it over vanilla almond milk and ice cubes, added a bit of raw sugar, and the end result is something that tastes like a very strong white russian. Interesting. Not at all what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised :)

Sounds so fancy! :-)

Chocolate and coconut?! Why do I not, in my obscene amount of tea, have a chocolate and coconut tea?! Thanks to VariaTEA for this sample!

The first sip was heavy and left a chocolate aftertaste, but there was no coconut to be found. Sweetening it a little… aaaah, the coconut hides in the creamy flavor! I am really liking this tea, but I do with there was more coconut to compete with the level of chocolate. It almost has an alcohol scent to it. Maybe a rum? I like it! I have a few more cups worth to decide if it is a must have.

I’m continuing my Harney & Sons tribute day with one of my all-time favorite teas. This tea just fits me and was the first tea I went all crazy over. It doesn’t get the most love on Steepster, which is fine- more for me! I love how neither the chocolate nor the coconut overpowers the other and the floral aspect is the finishing touch for me. With milk, it is to die for! Mr. Harney has created a great legacy with his tea company, which adds enjoyment to so many lives.

I am joining in on the tribute momentarily—next cup. Just heard the sad news. I agree: what a legacy!

So my sample of this is marked as from Cavocorax but I swear I got in from VariaTEA. Hmm, how peculiar. Maybe she received it from Cavo before passing it on to me?

Now that this is steeped up, I’ll admit to being a little thrown by it. I know it’s supposed to be chocolate/coconut – and I totally get those two flavours, however, there’s more to it than that and it’s weirding me out a little – I’m not sure whether I’m enjoying the cup! Although, I definitely don’t dislike it either…

I swear, this reminds me of a black version of DAVIDsTEA’s Jessie’s Tea blend, with the addition of chocolate also. I’m getting weird floral notes along with the coconut/chocolate, specifically the same sort of lavender I get in the DT blend. I wonder if it’s my mind just fucking around with me though, because of the little purple flowery things in the blend (which I looked up, and they’re amaranth petals – definitely not lavender).

I’m definitely going to need more than just this cup to make my mind up on this blend, that’s for sure!

Flavors: Chocolate, Coconut, Flowers

Oh haha. Yea, Cavo sent me some and when my 4 oz tin I arrived, I figured it was easier to send what was left of the Cavo sample than have to open the tin and package up more.

This one is my next must-try flavored black chez Harney & Sons… ;-)

This one’s on my list too… Interesting tasting note.

Another Fjellrev sample and, I believe, my third Harney experience (first loose leaf H&S blend, the others were sachets).

It smells mostly like coconut. I expected there to be something floral to it (I mistook the amaranth petals for pieces of rose) and am pleasantly surprised to realize that the petals were merely to prettyfy the blend.

I only steeped it for 2min30sec in 175F water, but it’s kind of bitter. Makes me think there’s probably darjeeling in the base and I’m really not a darjeeling fan.

There’s a faint sweet aftertaste, but I’m not really getting coconut or chocolate, just generic sweet.

I have enough left for a cup or two, so I might play around and make a latte out of it next time and see if that makes any difference. I’m all out of milky stuff or i’d add a splash to this cup and see what happens.

Thanks Fjellrev for the sample!

In the bag, the dry tea smells wonderful! I can easily pick up the creamy smoothness of coconut and vanilla. When brewed, it is still smooth and creamy. I steeped it for 3 minutes, and it feels fairly mild—the way I like it. Of the flavors, the coconut is most pronounced for me. The chocolate is difficult to trace. The vanilla is extremely subtle. Overall, I am really enjoying this tea! I wish Harney would sell smaller-sized tins though.

I really wanted to like this. Coconut and chocolate? I love those things! But I didn’t like this. And that makes me sad. Like this => :(
