Cracked open my new Florence tin. Love the redesign of the tins. As chocolaty as I remembered. I ate with some Hershey’s chocolate because….

I need to cut down on the candy lately though, geez

I haven’t seen the new tins!

This almost smells more like hot chocolate than tea…a truly rich, decadent chocolate scent! Unfortunately, the flavor doesn’t live up to the aroma. The chocolate and hazelnut were there, but muted. I think I need to try a longer steep time on this one next time. Thanks to The Cookie Lady for the sample!

Holy nuts! This did not scream Nutella to me as I’ve heard others suggest ( and as I might have expected from cocoa and hazelnut), but it most certainly screamed NUTS!!! This is probably the nuttiest tea I’ve tried so far. And don’t get me wrong…I did get cocoa flavor in there. It even stuck around through a second steeping. It was lovely. I’m so glad Beorhthraefn set me such a generous sample of this! Thanks! I will enjoy every bit of it!

I ordered a sample of this since it seemed to be one of the more popular H&S teas. The dry leaf has a very strong, bitter chocolate scent, which lingers on in the brewed cup. While this tea definitely tastes like chocolate, it’s not exactly rich—like a bar of chocolate that is mostly cocoa solids and has been sitting on the shelf for a while. The tea base doesn’t have much of a presence, and I tasted neither astringency nor “tea fragrance” in spite of steeping for a while. There is a hazlenut note in the background, which is quite mellow, but almost makes the tea profile seem weaker—not sure how to explain this, but it’s something that doesn’t even register as “a flavor” unless I pay attention to it. The whole cup tastes more like what I would have expected a second steep to be. Overall, it’s inoffensive but not particularly appealing to me. I’ve probably been spoiled on certain other teas that naturally have a chocolate-like taste…

I’ve had several good and several not so good teas from Harney and Sons. I am delighted to say this is definitely a good one. I have become a chocolate and hazel nut fanatic and this fits the bill so well. Lovely chocolate, creamy hazelnut, black tea base. The dry leaves smell wonderful and they do not disappoint. The aroma is even more lovely than the dry scent. It has caffeine to help start the day or have that pick-up we need mid afternoon. Something to keep in the cupboard!

This is very very chocolatey with a roasted note that must be the hazelnut coming through. It is tasty, but I have to admit, chocolate teas aren’t quite my thing most of the time. I always find myself then seeking out the real thing…which could be seen as awesome or awful, depending on how you look at it.

Sipdown! (31 | 104) (I’ve made several shipdowns since my last note!)

Don’t ask me why I ordered a sample of this…

For some reason I feel the need to keep retrying some of the more popular Harney teas, even though I know I don’t love them. This one is the silliest of all, considering I know I don’t like chocolate flavoring in 99% of cases…

Anyway, unsurprisingly, I don’t love it. The hazelnut is nice enough, but the chocolate just tastes artificial to me (as usual).

Oh well, I gave it a fair shot! Lol…

I know what you mean! I stopped ordering from Harney because I generally found their teas to be pretty meh, but I still find myself looking at their website and considering from time to time!

Cameron B.

There are a few that I really like from them, but they don’t tend to be the most popular ones for some reason…

Mastress Alita

I never ordered from Harney in the past, but have felt the urge from time to time more recently as I get some cupboard space back… and now it appears they don’t carry the samplers anymore. Soooooooooo… ya, big nope on that front.

Dustin

How have you been?! Do you still have power and are able to stay warm? The fact that you are able to make tea and tea notes is a good sign.

Cameron B.

@Alita – I’m still seeing the sample sizes available? But they are out of stock often.

@Dustin – We’ve been lucky and haven’t lost power. Right now the only issue is that our water isn’t working…

Mastress Alita

Well, then every single tea on the site with “Sample” listed is Sold Out and hasn’t been restock in many months, as I’ve jumped back and looked over quite a span of time. Finally, I just gave up.

ashmanra

I signed up to be notified when the samples I want come in, but they sell out really fast.

Dustin

Oh good! Glad to hear it. Hope your water comes back on soon!

tea-sipper

Aw, I hope Harney doesn’t stop selling samples completely.
I’m glad you’re doing ok in Texas, Cameron! Poor Texas.

Lexie Aleah

Agreed I hope they keep the samples and maybe can restock them more often or something.

This is a tea I was wanting to try for a very long time. Someone gave me this opportunity by sending a sample of it and…I forgot who ! Maybe MissB ? so sorry but thank you so much !

This is an American blend. A good one. I don’t really know how to explain that but there is something in the blend that tastes american. different from my usual european blends. Florence gets this taste an this odour as well.

I appreciate the nuttiness of Florence, the sweet almonds and the sweet chocolate. Everything is so sweet and mellow, kind of sugar cloud.

I am very happy to taste Florence even if this not a tea I’ll add in my shopping list.

american teas really are different – and so are french teas and then there are german teas.

Another great offering from H&S! I got a sample of this in Miss B ’s tea sale of awesomeness and am very happy to have a chance to try it. To me, I get mostly hazelnut with some hints of cocoa along with a smoooooth black base. There was zero bitterness and I was quite happy to drink this plain, although I see now that the H&S website suggests adding milk to achieve a Nutella-like taste. Next time!

I don’t love this. From the description I thought I would. In fact, I was sure I would, but the chocolate has that strange fake flavor that leaves a funky aftertaste. The hazelnut is nice, but there’s not enough of it for my liking. Oh well. This just isn’t a me kinda tea.

Not in love with this one either…

I’m really glad I bought a sample instead of a whole tin!
