This sample is from a family friend. This is the first time I’ve gotten a good look at a CTC tea. It comes in very small, curled leaf bits that almost resemble coffee grounds, with little or no scent. The brewed tea is deep red and has a soft sweet aroma that isn’t floral, fruity, or bread-like; the best I can describe it is starchy.
The taste of this tea is very robust but smooth. A longer brew time will increase astringency, but somehow doesn’t make the flavor more intense or alter its basic qualities. Overall it’s a very strong tea (caffeine-wise) that doesn’t have strong flavors but rather is light and consistent, and probably makes for a very good wake-up tea!
