Our verdict:
Throughout China, “Mao Feng” stands for good quality tea with plenty of buds. This deliciousMao Feng, grown at an altitude of 300 metres from Fu Ding plants, is produced on a smallfamily plantation run with a true passion and a never-ending quest to improve the qualityof its tea. The plantation is located in the Zhejiang mountains, some 30 kilometres fromYiwu, and produces this green tea in accordance with excellent environmental standards, without the use of pesticides. The plants are tended to entirely by hand using traditionalmethods. The plantation is surrounded by five kilometres of fallow fields which helps ensurethe consistent quality of Mao Feng Imperial. The result is a pure delight! This tea is a real findand perfectly capable of rivalling the most prestigious names. You’ll love it!

This afternoon I tried some of the “test tube” loose-leaf Mao Feng Impérial from Palais des Thés. My first impression was that the dried tea does not look at all like Mao Feng. I’ve tried several different Mao Fengs, and they all have a dark wiry and pretty uniform leaf form. The contents of my aluminum test tube contains every kind of leaf and its mother, brother, sister, father, uncle, and cousin. There were even little broken twigs—like tiny tree branches. Really!

The liquor was pale greenish gold, and the taste was good, but not specifically Mao Feng—at least not to me. I take both the visual and the gustatory evidence to support my conclusion that this is a blend, not a single-origin Mao Feng. To me this seems more like a cross between Tamaryokucha, Long Jing, and Mao Feng (or even Mao Jian)!

I picked this up from MyHabit and have yet to try it. I do like the test tubes… ;)

I am obsessed with the aluminum test tubes, Blodeuyn! I’m probably going to use them to store Teavivre and Golden Tips samples. ;-)

I’m trying to find somewhere to purchase them. :)
