From Mahamosa Gourmet Teas, Spices & Herbs

The creamy caramel flavor with just a hint of almond and cream on a delicious rooibos base is just perfect and results in a delicious, soft composition rounded off with a dash of cream. This variety is a must for any serious Rooibos assortment. This makes a perfect dessert tea! Ingredients: Rooibos tea, cream caramel pieces (sweetended, skimmed condensed milk, sugar, glucose molasses, butter fat, wetting agent: sorbitol, emulsifying agent: mon- and diglyceride of edible fatty acids), brittle pieces (sugar, hazelnut pieces, and invert sugar), flavoring.

This tea was a bit of a toss up on whether I would like it or not with so few tasting notes and the mediocre rating but I gave it a try anyway and I am glad that I did. I was looking for something sweet this morning to go with my amazing local greek yogurt and picked this since it arrived at my doorstep yesterday.

This tea is really quite lovely and although I did add some extra sweetener to bump up the sweet flavour to compete with the yogurt, the caramel and rooibos flavour come through as well and I really enjoyed this. I think I only have about 1 more serving in the pack (seems to make about 3 of my big mugs) and I’ll have to remember this one for future Mahamosa orders.

No free tea this time because they sent me a free container! It’s pretty sweet and nice and red with one of those clear tops (probably UV protected, I didn’t look but that’s how they usually are of that style). It’s really quite lovely and fits the 2oz package I got in this order very nicely.

Marco Polo TTB

Yuck, yuck, yuck, I have no motivation to do anything today. I feel as though my brain and body is trapped inside a Slime and that Slime is too lazy to move, the fatigue is real, yo. Me thinks after I write this tea’s review I shall make like a pile of leaves and take a nice long soak in hot water. Preferably while reading a book, maybe I will bring some tea to sip as well, just submit myself to complete relaxation. Ah memories, when I was a kid, the most decadent thing I could think to do was to take a hot bath while eating ice cream, especially if it was pistachio ice cream, if you have not tried eating ice cream while soaking I most certainly recommend it.

Today we are taking a look at Mahamosa Gourmet Teas, Spices & Herbs Caramel, an herbal dessert tea. A blend of Rooibos, Cream Caramel Pieces, Brittle (specifically hazelnut) pieces, and Flavoring, this tea sounds like a real sweet treat. The aroma of the dry leaves certainly has me believing that it will be a sweet treat, with notes of caramel, sweet nuttiness, and woody, slightly sour, rooibos as a base. It is very sweet, the caramel plays well off the naturally caramel notes of the rooibos.

Steeping the tea leaves fills my room with an intense sweetness. The little red leaves smell woody and sweet with notes of caramel, nuttiness, and a bit like a caramel latte, complete with coffee. The liquid is creamy and sweet with very strong notes of caramel, it smells like candy and richness.

Tasting time, luckily for me I am having a sweetness craving, so if this tea tastes as sweet as it smells I will be in a very happy place. The sipping starts off sweet and woody, like a typically sweet, woody, and dry rooibos with an extra caramel coating. This turns into a creamy midtaste and toasted nuttiness that gives it that bit of a latte flair. The finish is dry and woody, just like I expect from a rooibos, the tea was not cloyingly sweet like a mouthful of caramel, but it is quite sweet so it certainly fits its goal of being a dessert tea. Plus you can sip it before sleep thanks to it not having caffeine!

I received this tea from the Marco Polo TTB, filled with lovely samples from a huge variety of tea companies. This is my first tea from Mahamosa Gourmet Teas. I happen to like rooibos teas especially in the evening when caffeine is a no-no. The rooibos taste is smoothly present without smacking you in the face. The caramel is smooth and creamy. It has a bit of an aftertaste but it isn’t unpleasant. I added a little sweetener but I have the feeling most people wouldn’t need it. Yummy!
