From Mountain Stream Teas

Taiwanese Milk Oolong doesn’t ‘taste’ like milk. It ‘feels’ like milk. A thick, sweet and full mouthfeel is the name of the game for masterfully produced milk oolongs and this one has it in spades. Oxidized more than high elevation oolongs, this tea also has a subtle and rich fruit aftertaste lacking in many higher elevation oolongs.

This great tasting tea is one of the best value teas on the site right now for one main reason. The Ilan area is not ‘famous’ so the ‘terroir premium’ is at a minimum. We know for a fact that many resellers buy tea in this area and sell it at a premium in ‘Alishan’ or ‘Shanlinxi’ labelled bags. Cheating is not our style, so we are happy to be able to offer this tea at its authentic, great value price!

The MS website says this tea doesn’t “taste” like milk, but instead “feels” like milk. Being vegan, I haven’t had cow’s milk in many, many years, but I can see how this has a milk “feel”. It’s perhaps slightly creamier than other green oolongs and there’s a sweetness at the end of the sip that makes me think of the leftover sugary milk at the end of a bowl of cereal I enjoyed as a child (in a very subtle way). Naturally, the vegetal flavour of a green oolong is there, but it’s fairly muted in this tea. An enjoyable cuppa, all round!

Also, we are going to see Bill Nye tonight and I just had to tell someone because we’re so excited!
