From Peet's Coffee & Tea

“Xuan’en, in China’s Hubei province, is as romantic a setting as the name of this tea implies. The cup is fresh, bright and brisk, with aromatic hints of green… Read more peas and kale, leaving a crisp aftertaste. Careful measures are taken to produce this tea organically in accordance with international standards.”

Purchased a 4 oz. tin in-store at Peet’s for around ten dollars. Jade Cloud/Mist is one of my favorite varieties of green, so I figured I’d give it a try. I used about 1.5 heaping tablespoons, and accidentally steeped it for a little too long (around 6-7 minutes), but it was still forgiving and not too bitter unlike most greens if brewed that way.
Smell/Aroma: the tea itself smells very sweet, which doesn’t come through as much in the brew itself.
Appearance: brews a fairly dark, almost orangeish liquor.
Body: Fairly light.
Taste/Flavor: absolutely love the flavor of this tea. Very brothy…so much so that it almost tastes like it could be used in place of chicken broth in recipes! Perhaps it’s the theanine content…? Can definitely taste the kale notes as well.

Surprisingly solid tea, especially for the price.

First day at my new temp job. Missing my tea collection already… :-P

Today was a true test as I found out when I got there they have a big project due tomorrow and they hadn’t even started it yet when I arrived. Oy… I almost walked out the door after I heard that but stayed. Pretty unfair as I don’t know them, their projects or anything about the job really. It took me most of the day just to get the documents organized, not to mention what needs to go in them. Well I guess after tomorrow they may throw me out the door but it really wouldn’t be my fault as their expectations were totally unrealistic.

So I got this tea on my lunch break as there is a Peet’s nearby. Honestly I cannot rate this because tea was not made to be consumed in a paper cup with a tea-sac. I thought it had a light, vegetal flavor with a bit of bitterness but mostly I just tasted paper and vegetables.

There is a tea kettle in the new office so I will try to bring some teabags with me tomorrow, I will def. be needing a tea break or two at some point during the day.

Yikes! Totally unfair if they blame you for their own incompetence!

Nichole/CuppaGeek

Ugh! That’s not right. Hopefully it goes better on your second day!

Thanks everyone! Wish me luck :)

That’s rough. I hope it’ll go alright! Let’s hope it’s not always like that there.

caile

Good luck! :)

Oh, this explains the sudden Peet’s reviews on your tasting log this week! (There’s a Peet’s by my work, too, so I’m making notes. ;) ) Good luck with the job and hopefully things got better after the first day.

TeaBrat

thanks Chai. :) I really like their Scottish breakfast if you don’t mind a bit of smoke in your tea.

Chai Kaimera

Nice, will try that one!
