Description

Winter tea harvesting on Lishan is a somewhat frantic activity, as legions of tea pickers rush to gather the season’s leaves before the arrival of Winter frost. The first flush of these teas are the most exceptional, occurring in early November at the highest elevation gardens and gradually moving down mountain.

Grown at 2,000 meters (6500 feet) above sea level, our Winter crop Lishan oolong is a first flush tea, gathered in early November. When we arrived in Taiwan the second week of November, an allotment of 30 jins (about 40 pounds) of tea had already been earmarked and set aside for us.

This year, less than ideal weather conditions made a good winter crop tea difficult to find. After cupping the result of several days’ production, we selected one we found stood out. With bold and full aromatics, this year’s Lishan Winter coats the palate with distinct notes of gardenia and fresh cream, in a manner that perfectly balanced nuance with intensity.
