This is my 100th tasting note!!! Anyway after an exhausting weekend seriously I am ready for the work week to start so I can recover from this whirlwind of a weekend. Soccer game for teen about 100 miles away on Saturday morning rush back so he can dress for 8th grade dance then off to olive garden to drop him and friends, then on to dance but not before taking lots of pics. Hubby insistent on going to the Dynamo’s soccer game while son is at dance so then rush to get to game watch game rush home to pick son up from dance wait in long carrider line and well it’s just getting boring so I’ll spare you but you get the point right? I’m not called “soccermom” just for grins! :)
Anyway on Friday night I got in two orders one from Rishi one from Silk Road and it was like having a personal Christmas if at Christmas you got all teas. Well I’ve been waiting for awhile to order this one it’s been on my shopping list from pretty much my first week here. I couldn’t wait to steep it up and so I popped the top tonight and to my surprise it smelled like homemade cinnamon bread yes you know the kind with lots of cinnamon and sugary icing YUM! So I couldn’t wait to taste it but I did I waited the five minutes (rather impatiently but waited all the same) it turned into this bright red liquor and I kinda started to freak out because it does have hibiscus in the ingredients and I don’t know if I like hibiscus yet or not I know people tend to have strong opinions on hibiscus around here so this made me nervous. That and the smell changed to a tarty smell (I am guess the hibiscus?).
So on to the taste the taste is like this it starts out slightly tart and cinnamony and then it seems to get a little more tart but ends up going down smooth and sweet. This is a nice one I really like the tarty smoothness for all those in your face fans out there if you like hibiscus and cinnamon this one is dynamite! I like it I don’t know how often I will find myself drinking it but I do quite like it!

Since the tin said to brew it in apple cider for something different, and for some reason I have a bunch of apple cider k-cups, I made one and then steeped this in it for a really long time…because I forgot about it entirely. I planned to have it iced anyway but now I made it super strong!
When I got back from mailing some swaps and going to the grocery store for some vegetables for dinner, I remembered and added ice to have with my salad. I really dislike Kroger but they have a $5.99 a pound salad bar with four kinds of lettuce, a prepared Greek salad, and tons of toppings; it even includes grilled chicken, which surprised me but I wasn’t gonna touch it. My little salad was only $1.74! Meanwhile good luck getting a decent bell pepper…ugh. I appreciate vegetables that aren’t always attractive but when they’re soft in spots and 50% bruised, I draw the line. I almost bought an organic one but they wanted an obscene $3 for ONE.
Anyway. This was BRIGHT red to the point of very much resembling wine. It definitely has a mulled wine taste, although I have never had any…I just know the smell and this is how I always imagined it would taste. I thought my really long infusion would add too much cinnamon but it’s the perfect amount of spice. The combination of fruit really does taste like a wine, a bit of berry, plum, and apple. Not sure what kind of red but definitely very winelike.
Well at least now I know what to do with these apple cider cups! I think I have more of them than I do this tea, but I think I would definitely get this again. The price isn’t too bad either!
This smells awesome! Very mixed-drink-like. I knew right away about the hibiscus and under infused…it turned out lovely. Yes, it’s still tart, but the other ingredients help counteract that, thankfully. I think this would be lovely iced but I can also see this as a base for holiday punches and specialty drinks, etc. It does have a mulled cider like quality to it too! This is unique and fun but it’s IS tart…I’ll let it slide due to the interaction of the other ingredients helping it along! This is just plain FUN!
Thanks to Soccermom I got to try this tea last night. I was excited to relax with such a deep purple steep of tea. I love the scent of this tea. The cinnamon and plum together are very calming/warming. I needed warmth after the cool rain that came in last night.
The taste of this tea is first plum, than cinnamon, and a bit of hibiscus on the aftertaste. I really like how mellow the spices are in this blend. I enjoyed this more when it was steaming hot, then when it cooled down (I forgot about it while I was reading steepster notes and checking email). I could see having this several nights a week and look forward to purchasing more my next trip to Whole Foods. Thanks again, SoccerMom
I keep cold brewing this tea. It is great! I just add cold water and let it sit in my fridge for 4-12 hours then remove the blend. Delicious and spicy at the same time! It isn’t bitter either. I am afraid to try this hot, but I may try a little of it before I run out of this delicious tea!
Today I added the cold tea to my strawberry smoothie. :) YUM!
At first I didn’t like this tea, but since I have a whole box and need to use it up I decided to try mulling it. What a difference!
First the recipe: 32 oz of water in a saucepan, some mulling spices, brown sugar (or honey, if you prefer) to taste, and 4 or 5 generous spoonfuls of tea. Heat for 8-10 minutes, strain, serve, enjoy!
Mulling really improved this tea, so much so that I don’t think I’ll be drinking it any other way. The sugar mellows the tartness of the plum, and the spices improve what’s already there in the tea. My main complaint before was that there wasn’t enough cinnamon, but now the balance is perfect.
Delicious! I could detect both cinnamon and plum very well, and it makes a well-flavored cup. One neat thing about this tea – when you steep it, it forms a red and a blue layer. Take a look before you stir it up! (of course, this might happen with other teas too, I haven’t paid that much attention) One warning, though – don’t add soy milk! It completely separated out. Gross! I’m not sure if that happens with dairy milk too.
