16oz, soy, no whipped cream.

Oh, yum. Oh, calories, Oh, not so bad calorie-wise without the whipped cream. Must ask if there’s sugar syrup in here and get it without next time — but mondo refreshing. I love matcha blended with soy milk, and this cold blend goes down nice and smoooooth. Sure, straight-up matcha is better, but got a milk-shakey type drink, this is great.

LiberTEAS

I don’t know this for sure, so it’s definitely worth asking – but I think that the Matcha/green tea used in the starbucks blended drinks (green lattes, etc) is a concentrate with the sugar/sweetener already mixed in.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sugar fiend. The sweeter, the better, I usually say. But this drink is just nasty. I can’t detect anything remotely green tea-like in it!

Cofftea

I agree! Fake matcha is just nasty. And what the heck was up w/ the melon syrup they used to put in it- w/o telling us it was in there! Thank God that’s gone at least.

Britt☮

Yes! I’m really not a big fan of melon, so the addition of the melon syrup put me off this drink for life.

Cofftea

Don’t let that stop you from making your own matcha lattes/smoothies at home, you’re in the best place to do so!=D

Britt☮

I should, but I’m hesitant to buy non-bottled tea here since I can’t read the labels and I have no idea what I’m buying, lol!

Garrett

For example, the first bag of tea you bought me from over there you thought was matcha, but it turned out to be sencha, which was still pretty awesome. :P

had it with 2 shots of syrup instead of the standard 3 ( I asked the barista how much they usually put in). She also confirmed that it’s plain syprup, not the melon, which is discontinued. I also got whipped cream b/c I like the texture it adds, but did cut down the amount. Shouldn’t have gotten the grande… maybe too much sugar? An hour later I have a stomach ache. Next time I’ll ask for only one shot. Or better yet, I’ll get real tea… This choice seemed like an indulgence at the time, but now seems more like masochism.

Cofftea

Real tea at SBUX (or or if you want indulgence go for one of the other frappuccinos or blended cremes)- either in plain tea or latte form and real tea at home- get some real matcha and make a smoothie exactly the way you want it:)

I just came back from a club meeting and I walked to the copy and mail center to mail my friend her tea and the guy who helped me out told me he was a tea drinker! Yeah I kinda put it in the wrong envelope so he had to open it up and put it in the correct one.
Well since I was just a building away from Starbucks, I decided to do a Starbucks run :)
I’ve actually never gad this tea before. I’ve only ever had the Chai tea latte and the green tea looked… A bit too green and offputting to me? Let it be known, I’ve never had matcha before so the greenest tea I’ve ever had was just any regular old green tea.
But this is actually pretty good! I got it with light whip cuz I didn’t know if a lot of whip would ruin it.
Definitely tastes green, a bit sweet to my liking. Next time I order I’ll probably tweak it up a bit :)

I really like this stuff.. Very sweet, though.
It’s best cold, but is nice hot as well.

I definitely have to be in the mood for one of these.

With the new Starbucks Frappuccino mix, this drink has gone from okay to awesome. Ask for extra matcha. Try with soy if you want another sugar kick, as well.

Cofftea

I wish they’d just put plain ole regular unsweetened matcha w/ no additives in it! Why would soymilk add a sugar kick? I think it’d be REALLY good w/ white chocolate syrup.

Firstly, I should say we don’t have a Starbucks where I live. The closest one used to be about an hour and 15 minutes away. We used to make an event of going to the mall when we were in high school. We referred to it as ‘going off the mountain’. One of the fun things about going off the mountain is shopping. One of the other fun things is Starbucks and Krispy Kreme. (If you don’t live in the south and are addicted to Dunkin’ Donuts, I feel for you. I used to be like you. Then I learned better.) Now I only go to Starbucks if I drive almost two hours away to a slightly-near bigger city. So basically, I don’t get to drink frappes very often.

Anyway. I usually get a coffee frappe with an extra shot of espresso, a pump of caramel and a pump of vanilla with non-fat whipped topping. Last time I made the long trip to the closest bigger city, I got a green tea frappe because I didn’t want the coffee (it gets to my stomach if I drink it a lot), but I couldn’t go to a city without going to a Starbucks. It happens to you if you live in BFE.

So this frappe. It was actually really good. It didn’t taste even remotely like any green tea I’ve ever had, but it did taste a LOT like the green tea ice cream I get at the sushi bar in town. Almost like a green tea ice cream milkshake. I don’t know what kind of green tea they use to make it, but if I did I’d make it at home with my magic bullet, man. It’s super refreshing and definitely great to re-engerize you after a couple hours wandering around a giant mall.

I’m probably going to get this next time I get to hit up a Starbucks. And I’m going to talk to the guy who runs the local coffee place to see if he can recreate it.

It’s 95 degrees and muggy in downtown Washington, DC. My coworker was making a Starbucks run so I handed her a fiver and asked for one of these bad boys. I’d never had it before but I was intrigued.

Grande made with soy milk and with whipped cream. YUM. Definitely a fan. The matcha is strong and comes right on through in the flavor. I love it.

(Also, I’m quite amused this drink is on Steepster. I just looked it up on a whim and there it is! Glad it is though.)

Grassy. Green. Strong not like an ordinary tea bag brew of green tea. The first time I was introduced to matcha. It was not like anything I had ever tried but it does grow on you. I like it but as far as coffee culture and tea shop cultures go, I prefer the consistency of CBTL. For a home brew, I have my Aracha Matcha from Teas.com.au

I’m soo bad, I’ve had four of these THIS WEEK already. Always 2X the matcha and without the whipped cream, but still creamy and sugary and yummy as the weather is warming up. 2x the stars for the holiday weekend doesn’t hurt either. =D

I was in the store today and they have a special edition cold cup. _. I have a slight problem with cups, I can’t stop buying them! At least it meant my drink was free with the purchase of a cup. ($13 cup- $5 frappe… = $8 cup?). Normally I wait until seasonal clearance for new cups but it was THERE and it’s PRETTY. lol. I probably should just buy some matcha powder and start attempting them at home. $5/16oz cup still feels heavy on the wallet, although I wonder how fast I’ll run through the matcha @6tsp/16oz frappe or 8tsp/24oz and if the tradeoff is worth the money. Or if that is even the right proportion.

Preparation
6 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
carol who I don’t use that much matcha in my drink. I use only 1 tsp per 8 oz. milk substitute. I don’t know what others use. I then add some sweetener/flavoring. Right now a hazelnut stevia is my fav. Yum yum! I know others have all sorts of ways to make it.
Flyawaybirdie

Hehe, thanks for your recipe. I think it’ll take me some time to see how I like it, but I just ordered some off Zen Tea while it’s on sale. I have a vague idea of how Sbux makes it, but there are soo many ways to enjoy matcha, I’m going to enjoy experimenting.
Is there a reason why you use stevia? I rarely sweeten my tea but I’ve noticed stevia being popular around here. I’m still using white sugar. =)
