From T by Daniel

Can you imagine playing a game of Polo with the Prince of Wales? Pretty awesome thought, right?

That’s exactly how the founders of T By Daniel felt when they were asked to serve tea to His Royal Highness during his three-day, Canada 150 Royal Tour. A historic visit, and a monumental achievement for the little tea shop from Brampton!

This tea was specially blended to commemorate this great honour.

You can expect notes of:

Black Tea
Strawberry
Lemon

About the blend:

- The Purple Mallow flowers were added to represent HRH Royalty
- The Red Cornflower petals were added to celebrate Canada 150
- The Yellow Calendula and Sunflower petals to symbolize the happiness and excitement of this unforgettable moment in T By Daniel history

Ingredients: Ceylon Black Tea, lemon balm leaves, strawberry pieces, calendula and sunflower petals, purple mallow flowers, red cornflower petals

From this weekend, late Sunday.

I’ve been helping Shae and VariaTEA compile lists here and on instagram of Black owned tea companies, and in doing do I realized that the only one I could think of/had even knowingly purchased from was T by Daniel – I have since found a couple more companies that I was at least familiar with (even if I’d never bought from them) but just didn’t know the background of the owners.

I ordered from a new to me company, Hella Tea, earlier this week and I would like to continue to order from some of these new to me companies in the future.

In the meantime, I pulled out a couple of my T by Daniel blends to steep up and enjoy a little bit more actively and attentively. I really enjoyed my mug of this tea; it’s a great take on a Lady Londonderry profile, with a beautifully brisk lemon note accented against full bodied and just a little bit astringent black tea. The astringency actually works really well here, because it plays off the natural pithy-ness of the lemon, and offsets sweetness that could otherwise be cloying. Great on its own, but really well set up to be enjoyed with sugar or honey as well!

T by Daniel was the only one on the list I was already aware of, too. Most of them weren’t even in the database. I’ve added a few so they at least have some sort of presence here and I’m going to continue adding them one by one.

That’s amazing, thank you for that! :)

Thank you for helping to compile the list! (:

Same – I was only aware of T by Daniel. (cringe)
