From teabento

Happy Panda is an non-smoked hand-picked First Flush Lapsang Souchong from Tongmuguan Village in the Wu Yi Mountains. The small reddish-black dry leaves have a warm, biscuity and floral aroma with tones of cereals and dried fruits. The infusion produces a silky, smooth mouthfeel with a rich, deep “oaky” flavour and underlying scents of dried plum and orange peel, followed by a delicious malty-sweet aftertaste. A must try for all black tea lovers!

Are you gonna try the oolongs? I’ve been curious, but I am on the fence.

I have 5 of their oolongs. A review will be coming eventually.

Another sample graciously provided by Teabento. This one is easy to enjoy. It reminds me of a quality “red” or Dian Hong style black tea. Very smooth, malty taste that lingers pleasantly.

My first cup was the initial rinse prepared at the suggested 1-minute, 205° pre-boil which produced a deep golden liquor. The second time around I jumped off the suggested trail and went a full 3-minutes. The resulting cup was darker, but still a beautiful golden-red, and the flavor was significantly more intense. Still smoothly malty, and the stone fruit in the aftertaste was much more pronounced.

Overall a very nice tea for black tea fans – but if you think everything called Lapsang Souchong is smoky…think again.

What-Cha’s unsmoked Lapsang is one of the best I’ve had personally.

Again, many thanks to teabento for providing these samples for me to try! This is my second of eight, and I enjoyed it today in my tea press at work. It was a particularly stressful day with a lot going on because we had the entire store professionally inventoried. However, drinking this tea felt like experiencing the calm after a storm. I had it on break so that definitely helped, though.

I did take proper jot notes too! It’s been a while since I’ve brought my tea journal with to work – but it was important to me that I do this tea justice in capturing my thoughts as I drank it!

- So I absolutely loved LS, smoked and unsmoked
- Normally I wouldn’t dare make LS in a tea press
- This one is unsmoked so I thought it viable
- And it worked well! This was delicious
- This one is an unsmoked option; good for people who don’t love that aspect of Lapsang
- I did think it was a LITTLE BIT smoky, but in the natural sort of way a Keemun is
- Not in the way smoked LS is at all
- Most dominant note was a strong woody element throughout the sip
- teabento describes this as ‘oaky’ and I think that’s pretty nail on the head
- I didn’t taste much in the way of fruit notes sadly; they were there but very mild
- Would have loved to get that orange peel element! Oh well…
- Though some stonefruit did peak out in the finish of the sip, especially as the tea cooled
- Vaguely plum like I suppose, also a little raisin-ish
- Also got notes of malt, and dark bitter chocolate
- That’s not to say the tea was bitter; it was smooth with a pleasant mouthfeel!
- But just bitter in the way that chocolate sometimes pleasantly is!

noms. Another sample from teabento (thanks again!). This is a non smokey lapsang for those who are interested in trying it. There’s a fruity aroma to this one but the taste is largely malty, smooth and delicious. I had some spicy food while drinking this one, so more to come next time i have this one heh

A nice fruity black tea. I’m a fan of these unsmoked lapsang souchongs. I’ve never described a tea as tasting like marshmallows, but this one has a bit of that character. It’s a nice tea, though I don’t think I would buy a significant amount of it at the moment.

Just read Teabento’s tasting description. It’s the cereal taste that reminds me of marshmallows—Marshmallows and Stars/Lucky Charms cereal!
