Hm. I swore I’d already cracked this one open. Perhaps it was for a swap with one of you?

Anyway. This is a fascinating blend, in that it smells very differently than it tastes. Prior to steeping and right after, it mostly smells like rooibos with a bit of vanilla in there. After steeping and cooling down, now it’s almost completely vanilla with a bit of rooibos at the very end.

Drinking it was pleasant – it has the mouthfeel of cream, and the flavor of vanilla cream. Only a hint of spice comes out at the end, and I wish there was a touch more nutmeg in here to make it really, truly an eggnog (to me). It is absolutely delicious however, and I’m glad I was only able to grab a larger bag of this.

sipdown! (169) not too shabby for being sick, not concentrating on sipdowns and having awesome tea friends make my cupboard explode on the day before the end of the year. lol 30 more days to see if i can get down at 150 just for fun!

This was another tea from the lovely missB I’m not a huge fan of eggnog – something about the texture makes me NOT want anything to do with it. But i DO like creamy, delicious vanilla type flavours – which this most certainly is. I haven’t had eggnog in years, so i have no clue how close to eggnog taste this is…but it’s what i want eggnog to be like – creamy and delicious with no funny weird textures :) thanks for sending this my way missB! I quite like it, and it’s not necessarily something i’d have picked myself :)

Edit: i Started the year having tried 1398 teas since i joined steepster…total as of the end of today 6 new ones! (1404) Let’s see if i can make it another few hundred by 2015 haha

Boiling 6 min, 0 sec

OK so when I read this I thought you were saying you had 1398 teas is your cupboard. Ha ha. You’re doing good if you down to 169 now. Ha ha.

Oh gosh. See, this is why I ask if you have dislikes, so I can avoid that kinda stuff. Although… it seems this was a good choice after all! :)

No way missB! I like trying things…..even if I don’t like something ill still try it. Eggnog I don’t like because of he the texture…the flavour has always been something I could get behind.

Also lala….if my cupboard was that big I’d have a heart attack….300+ was too much for me haha

Terri HarpLady

Yay for trying so many teas!!! Go girl!
I’m in the process of re-organizing my stash. Once I get it all in order, I’ll do a count. I’m guessing 300+, hahaha

You all make me want to reorganize my stash…My steepster cupboard is so not up to date! I lost control about a year ago when I went over the 300 mark. (Terri I do sympathize!) then, after getting rid of more than half of it (gifts and gifts and more gifts and not ordering for 6 months) made it a lot more manageable. But after a slip through black friday, I feel a little out of control again :-0

I force myself to keep it organised at least in terms of steepster having the teas that are in my cupboard. It’s a fast way to see if my numbers are creeping up and makes sure i know whats there if i forget something

This one can only be from MissB!

The dry leaf smelled fantastic. Like rich custardy dessert. Mmm. As soon as I poured the water over, all I could smell was the rooibos. Hmm. Fingers crossed!

And whoops! I didn’t set a timer.

Steeped, it smells like sweet spiced rooibos. Oh hey. That’s a pretty nice rooibos! I think I’d have to leave it to cool to get the full nutmeg/custard taste I’m expecting from the smell… so I’m going to cheat and add some of my home made coconut creamer.

Oh yum. That’s really tasty!

Well, I don’t know that I’d buy this just because I’d have to order it and it only comes in 100g sizes. But I do like it, and if you like the desserty rooibos flavours, this is definitely one to check out.

205 °F / 96 °C

Heh. I am a pusher, aren’t I? Glad you liked it. I do enjoy it as well, however 100g is just too much for me.

That’s exactly my thought! :) 50 grams would be enough.

I have seen this reviewed and never gave it much thought but you do make it sound tasty. And yes MissB, you are most definitely a pusher.

Also,I have also had the “whoops! I didn’t set a timer” moments. It always makes me sad.

Sometimes the tea will surprise you. :)

I got home from Christmas at my aunt’s house not too long ago, and I really wanted to tear into some of the tea I got for Christmas. But it was soooo late, that I definitely couldn’t have anything with caffeine. So I opened up this sample that TeaGschwendner gave me, complimentary with my order from them (and they included a personalized note and it was signed, by a real person). I figured, what the heck, it’s Christmas, and this is an Eggnog tea, and eggnog is pretty much THE Christmas beverage.

When I opened up the little resealable package, I was immediately hit with the scent of eggnog. Like, real, honest-to-goodness eggnog. If you had blindfolded me and put this under my nose, I would have thought there was a glass of eggnog near my face. It’s rich and creamy smelling.

This is the first time that I saw rooibos up close and personal, loose-leaf style. The only other rooibos I’ve ever had was that ROT Dream by the Fire blend, which I really didn’t enjoy. I could smell something similar in this bag to the ROT bag, so I figure that’s what rooibos smells like! Woodsy sweet.

Anyway, I steeped this up, and the resulting infusion was a beautiful sunset burnt orange. The smell coming off the liquod had a rooibos slant, but the eggnog was the dominant aroma. I’m not the hugest fan of eggnog, but I really do like Silk’s rendition of it.

On my first sip, I was quite surprised. It’s mild and smooth, and almost creamy-like. The eggnog doesn’t hit you until the tail end of the sip, and it tastes very convincing and natural. Like someone poured some eggnog into my rooibos. The effect was a bit uncanny and disconcerting. It’s a fairly sweet flavored tea, so I wouldn’t add any additional sugar (not that I ever add any to begin with). The eggnog flavoring definitely doesn’t overpower the taste of the rooibos, which I think I’m starting to get a feeling for on its own. I think I’m actually enjoying the taste. It’s fairly mild and sweet, even though it sort of looks like pencil sharpener shavings.

I sipped this with the boyfriend as we chatted about Christmas, and it just felt very snuggly and homey. I don’t think that I’d be able to drink this on a daily basis, for sure. It’s extremely seasonal. But it’s a really fun substitute for eggnog. One of those teas you curl up next to a fire on a cold winter’s night. And a perfect cap to this dreary Christmas evening!

Aw, this entry is so cozy! The woodsy sweet is also what I get from rooibos. Maybe with a puff of spice [like you’d get in cider, not from chili peppers]. And this tea sounds delicious! Glad you and boyfriend had something nice to curl up with.

Ooh, you made this sound so nice it made me go look it up to check about ordering it! Sadly, the US site of the company only ships to the US, and the European site doesn’t have the rooibush eggnog! Ah well. Enjoy it!

Oh booo, chana! I would definitely send you some if I had more than one cup! And now it’s all gone. :(

52teas just came out with a Rooibos Eggnog this week!

Mmm.. I can already tell that this is going to be a good rooibos tea. You know I have a favorite kind of rooibos tea base.. a bit like sweet wood with none of the medicinal scent or flavor. This blend has that delicious base and I can’t wait to drink it! It smells creamy and very much like other creme caramel rooibos blends I’ve had.

Sipping… I don’t taste any eggnog or anything that really resembles eggnog. I don’t even detect the spices. This tea seems to be all about the rooibos with a very generic, sweet finish. I’m a little disappointed that there is no eggnog flavor, but this cup is still very tasty since the rooibos seems to be of great quality and flavor on its own.

Hopefully I’ll figure out a way to enhance the eggnog flavor. I haven’t given up on it yet! Thank you, ToiToi for sharing this tea!

I am so sorry for the trouble you went through! Glad tea fits your taste though. :)

I got this tea from the Travelling Teabox – it was only a one-cup sample so it’s all gone now. :(

Consider me impressed over how un-rooibos-y this tastes. Actually you can taste it a little bit at the end, but the usual tart-woody flavour that I dislike mostly isn’t there. The flavouring is not a precise replica of eggnog but it still manages to be quite tasty and festive. It’s lightly sweet with a dash of nutmeg and cloves spicing it up – actually in this case I think the hint of rooibos flavour actually works for this tea instead of against it.

I think rooibos was just made for creamy candy flavors—chocolate, vanilla, cream; eggnog sounds great!

I wasn’t sure what I wanted this morning and this one seemed to beckon me. I’ve reached for it several times, only to smell it and change my mind.

Dry it smells sweet and almost peachy to me. I’m not one to like artificial peach so I’ve put it back down for fear it would taste much that way.

This steeps up a nice amber color, like most rooibos, and it smells sweet w/maybe a hint of vanilla… a nice surprise considering I assumed peach was going to come play. The flavor is much the same… vanilla w/a hint of cream & spice. I added a bit of sugar, as my usual, and could see myself trying this with a touch of milk/cream and maybe even a dash of nutmeg to see where the flavor goes. As it cools I get a little bit more spice… Yum!

I don’t really get eggnog as it is, but overall a very nice cup of tea that I could see myself enjoying especially while winding down of an evening. Thanks MissB!

Dessert teas are my weakness, and this is one of the better ones I have sampled recently. I am really impressed by TeaGshwendner, by the way. Their shipping was super-speedy and their teas have been superb. They do not stint on taste and I love the way the taste deepend and develops in their teas. Their Rooibush Eggnot is no exception to the incredibly high bar they have set.

If you like eggnog (as I do) but the profusion of calories, fat, cholesterol, sugars might ruin your diet, this tea is an extremely satisfying “hit” of sweet, full, rich eggnog. It’s got a natural sweetness, so you don’t need to add sugar although I am sure that the tea can stand up to added sugar or milk and not be the least bit overpowered.

The eggnog aroma is enticing in the dry, loose tea and also in the brewed tea. When you drink it, you can taste the eggnot quite specifically. The aftertaste is exceptionally festive and I felt as if I had downed a filling quart of eggnog without fear of consequences.

I am contemplating adding some warm milk and a shot of rum or bourbon next time I have this tea—although it really does not need any enhancements to make it pop in your mouth. This is a perfect tea to sip on as you sit by the fire and contemplate the majestys of winter; it’s a great substitute for eggnog that will not leave you feeling at all deprived. Play some holiday music, or pull out a mesmerizing Victorian novel. Repeat and congratulate yourself on how virtue sometimes really is a reward!

I was really impressed with their Rooibush Eggnog as well. The aftertaste in particular is just authentic, straight-up eggnog. Let me know how it goes with the alcohol added in!

SSTTB: Pick #9

Last tea of the night.

This is, I believe, my first experience with Tea Gschblahblahblah. I’ve definitely heard good things about them though so I was stoked to see a couple of their blends in The Box. The other one is very cinnamon heavy in smell which didn’t appeal to me; this smelled really creamy though and I liked the idea of comparing it to the other eggnog rooibos blend in The Box so I made a cup of it.

I have to say, right off the bat I like this a lot more than the 52Teas version; it’s much more flavourful and has a thicker, more full mouthfeel. Immediately I picked up on heavy egg and cream notes and a whole bunch of smooth, rich vanilla. I want to say there were also playfully light caramel notes intermingling with everything. And, it’s kinda amazing how much this one didn’t taste like rooibos or honeybush. I mean, I don’t know what the base tasted like – but not that.

I don’t know how much “spice” (Nutmeg and such) I got – I really didn’t notice any peaking out over the other flavours. For that reason I don’t know if this was really a “true” eggnog flavour. More so, I think this reminded me of a vanilla custard or Creme Brulee type thing. It was very good, though! I’d certainly drink it again – maybe stock it if it was possible to do so in a smaller amount.

Yummy! I think this might be the most impressive blend from the box so far!

Haha! Tea Gschblahblahblah is exactly what I think of every time I read a review on one of those teas :-)
