From teakruthi

Pure Ceylon Black tea infusion · Orange Pekoe (OP1) · Cinnamon spice

Loose leaf · From Ruhuna (a.k.a. Southern or Matara) region

Our Cinnamon Chai blend is a combination of two of our favourites: Low grown black tea and pure Ceylon Cinnamon. Hand-plucked at an elevation between sea level and 600m, this tea is heavy and robust; it offers a spicy, fresh flavour and is gold in colour. Ceylon Cinnamon, indigenous to Sri Lanka, is the best of its kind—in fact, it’s known widely as the only “true cinnamon,” or “real cinnamon.” Cinnamon grown in Sri Lanka has a popular reputation on the market for being unique and possessing quality colour, flavour, and aroma. This tea is truly a unique drinking experience for all Chai drinkers.

Health benefits of our Cinnamon Chai tea

Cinnamon Chai is rich in antioxidants such as Potassium and Magnesium that helps normalize blood pressure and reduce sugar levels, helping prevent Diabetes. The nutrients present in both Cinnamon and black tea work together to reduce the level of LDL “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides, lowering your risk of heart disease. The Polyphenols present in the black tea base have been shown to reduce the risk of Breast and Ovarian Cancer in women and Prostate Cancer in men. Discovery Advent Tea #3
Nice spicy chai for those who like it spicy. Though I picked up some weird soapy flavors too. Did not taste the cinnamon but Id be willing to give this one another go.

The last of my teakruthi teas I haven’t reviewed, even though I had to throw out the four hibiscus blends with living bugs in them: https://steepster.com/teas/teakruthi/91972-summer-isle I can’t say that I’m not hesitant. sigh.   This is supposed to be “chai” but only has cinnamon added.  To me it seems like a cinnamon flavoring, because it’s certainly not a cinnamon I’m accustomed to.  This is Ceylon cinnamon, of course, so maybe I never had Ceylon cinnamon.  Anyhow, the base tea is extremely savory: notes of black pepper, basil, tomato and the savory cinnamon fits right in there.   Not really what I was expecting, but it’s different.

Bugs?! :X

I’ve never heard of Teakruthi but that certainly doesn’t make me want to look LOL.

Yes, it was horrible. So many bugs thriving in pouches of tea… one that I had never opened until checking for bugs. It was like the one tea nightmare in all my years of drinking so many teas. (I know I have been lucky.) I guess that answered my question if some bugs could live in a pouch without air. :/ I HOPE they will stay aware of this problem and have fixed it for now, because otherwise teakruthi is awesome.

Courtney

Interesting flavour profile, and I’m glad this one didn’t have the bugs. :(

Dustin

Insects are so prevalent in any form of food production. The fact that we aren’t seeing bugs in our teas more often makes me wonder how all the other companies are treating their teas to eliminate bugs.

I like chai teas on occasion, and was glad to get this cinnamon version to review. Thanks to Teakruthi for the sample. I steeped around 4 g of leaf in a 355 ml mug at 203F for 4, 6, and 10 minutes.

The dry aroma is of strong, woody cinnamon. In the first steep, the cinnamon is the star, and is strong but not too sweet. It’s the kind of cinnamon that gets put into baked goods, and it’s making me hungry! The black tea is malty, woody, and not astringent. The next two steeps continue the nice balance between cinnamon and black tea, and even brewed for ten minutes, the astringency is minimal.

This is a simple, well-executed cinnamon tea that I really enjoyed. It’s not particularly spicy and calling it a chai might be a stretch, but I guess it fulfills the same warm, cozy niche.

I was thinking about Harney’s cinnamon tea when I picked this one, so I was surprised by how mild this is. The black tea is very nice with no bitterness, and the cinnamon is rather muted. This is one you wouldn’t want milk with because it would overwhelm the flavors. It’s definitely not a spicy chai. It’s just a mild black tea with light cinnamon. Not bad.

Sipdown (716)!

Finished this one off yesterday morning as my first cuppa of the day – sipped on during a meeting; feels like I’ve had a lot of sipdowns lately that took place in meetings. This was nice though; smooth and clean/distinct cinnamon with a bit of woodyness to it and overall warming/cozy feeling. Simple blend, as I’ve stated before, but solid execution.
