Well hello there, tisane-I-ordered-months-ago-but-kept-stalling-on-trying. I knew I was off to a good start when I opened the bag and a cloud of blueberry filled the kitchen. It gets me in blueberry-jam-making mode, and clearly excessive hyphen usage.

This makes such a scrumptious, non-complicated, juicy cold brew. The liquor is ridiculously red but the hibiscus isn’t crazy. I’d say the blueberry and hibiscus are 50/50 but the latter is gentler and not as tart and rambunctious as it sometimes can be. I can this making excellent popsicles.

This is very good, but a bit more sour than I ever really imagine blueberry being, so it masks the flavor just a bit. That being said, it makes an amazing iced tea if you add a little sweetener, and you can definitely taste blueberry. People who love juice REALLY need to give herbal blends like this a try – once you wean yourself off all the sugar, and a teaspoon in a cup tastes sweet to you, you will never go back.

Smell
Dry: It smells like blueberry yogurt with a strong berry scent. It smells sweet without being artificial. It’s almost an addictive scent.
Brewed: Syrupy, almost medicinal smell. Not so much of a blueberry scent as a mild hibiscus scent.

Appearance:
Dry: Dark, dried berries – looks like trail mix.
Brewed: Deep, transparent carnation red, with a hint of purple.

Taste:
Brewed: Sour, citrusy – tastes a bit fruitier than hibiscus, and has a more balanced flavor profile. Not too different from a lemon tea as far as flavor goes.

The variable temp kettle I purchased won’t heat all the way to 212, so I could only heat it to 203ºF. I also used the entire sample, because I wasn’t entirely certain about the measurements, and didn’t want to have a weak tea. It has a nice flavor, though I wouldn’t say that it’s significantly different from the other hibiscus-type teas that I have tried. It does have a nice color.

If you have ever wanted to try a herbal tea but have been afraid of the watered down taste, try this one. This tea is brimming with flavor, there is not even a hint of skimping on this lovely fruit flavor. It’s thicker and flavorful like a juice. Sooo delicious! And for those of you who don’t like hibiscus, don’t fret… this tea has the tiniest little taste of it (roselle is a species of hibiscus) that just enhances the flavor. Seriously, this tea is like a bowl of fresh blueberries, cherries, and currants wrapped into one. It is a little tart…but tart in an amazing way. I love it! Plus, you can always add sweetener to make it sweet if you so desire.

I purchased a sample size of this tea as I was unsure if I would like it. I am not the biggest fan of herbals but am always on the lookout for a good one that I can enjoy in the evenings. This was really good. I love blueberry and this tasted like a tart wild blueberry. I would definitely order this again if I make another Teavivre order.
