Mango Ceylon

I got a cup of this at Panera this afternoon with lunch since I was cold and tired from birding in the morning. Today is a pretty nice day relatively, but I wish it was like tomorrow is going to be… a lot warmer! I’m going to a concert tonight too and I’m not really looking forward to standing in the cold.

This tea was pretty decent. Most of the time I was just reminded about how much I hate drinking tea in tea bags from paper cups… too much paper taste! This tasted like a light-bodied black tea with a bit of mango. The mango wasn’t very strong, but it tasted relatively juicy and not cloyingly candy-like. When I look for a fruity black I really want a nice, rich base behind it, and that just wasn’t there in this cup. Also in a mango tea I prefer something even more mangoey. I would drink this one again if it was a choice at a restaurant, but I’m not going to buy a tin.

Like Dinosara, I picked this up at Panera with my chicken caesar salad for lunch. Salads are cold, and I wanted something warm to go with it. So this seemed to be a safe choice. I drank it straight.

In the end, the tea was fairly weak but the flavor that was there was good. It definitely needs a lot more mango in my opinion. I didn’t taste much mango or fruitiness in general. I suppose the tea was slightly sweeter than if the mango flavoring had not been added. I think if I had added milk or sugar, then that’s all I would have tasted.

Overall, it warmed me up and was pleasant enough. It’s one of those teas that I’d rather have than no tea at all. But if presented with a lot of other tea choices (especially loose leaf), I’d go with something else.

An absolute screamer day at work (clock ticking, school starts, post-tornado, in less … than … one … week … and … everything’s … an … emergency) so to be honest, I’m not sure I could taste any of the tea I could find time to swig in between crises. But I found a corner to crouch in during lunch and enjoyed this one. A nice balance of the two flavors that tipped a little more heavily toward the Ceylon, which was fine with me. Would be great iced, I think.

Maybe the bag was old. I could not taste the Ceylon. The mango is pleasant. There just isn’t enough tea in the bag to make a real cup. That’s a shame as this isn’t bad and it could be good. One of the better RoT’s I’ve tried. Oh, and I could taste the paper :(

-Round natural unbleached teabag.
-Teabag smells of sweet, tangy mango. Tea liquor smells slightly malty with a hint of fruit.
-Tea liquor is a dark amber-brown color.
-Fruity flavor with a malty finish.
-Best with milk and sweetener. (Milk lessens the mango flavor).
-Very good tea. Perfect for a juicy morning tea.

I was quite impressed by the fruity mango sweetness that came out of this tea when I made it up iced. This is the 3rd of 6 RoT teas my work stocks. I think I’ve enjoyed this the most so far. I do like the base of this tea, I just find that RoT’s teas taste “dusty” when hot, and I don’t get as much dust when sipping them iced.

Got this today with my catalogue – I fear I have over steeped this as I got distracted by a cold tea I had infused last night – was straining it. Anyway .. here we go … I can already smell that it may be a bit bitter – and now I don’t know if it is due to my over steeping or if it is in fact just bitter. I will assume that it is my fault.
Through the bitterness I smell something else … what is that familiar smell? Nutty? Woodsy? Could that be the mango? More like mango PEEL perhaps.
Tastes just like it smells. You know even though I know I over steeped – it really is not bitter. That is good!
Good black tea base – not complex or anything but a straight up black tea.
Clean and crisp – no astringency – nice.
I like it – I don’t LOVE it but not complaining.
This is one I would order if out at Panera or wherever or would happily drink at a friends, but as for a purchase I don’t think so. When I drink a flavored tea I want a bit more flavor than this offers.
I do appreciate that unusual smell / taste though.
Wish I had one more tea bag of it.

This is my go-to iced tea…and it’s a good one. It has a nice fruit taste, not too strong, not overpowering, not fake. A great tea for refreshing oneself on a hot day.

So I’m not the biggest fan of RoT, but when I am at Panera or somewhere that serves it and I have a tea craving, I usually go for the Mango Ceylon. The other one I really like is the green tea with ginger and peach. Like I said, I don’t drink these every day, but they get the job done in a pinch.

While I began drinking this I noticed something very familiar in this, but I couldn’t isolate the subtle flavor and thought that the sunflower seeds I had eaten earlier where tainting my palette. I looked to see what else was in this and turned out that it has sunflowers in it. The blending of mango and sunflowers is a very nice complement. This may become a new favorite.
