I made some of this earlier today as an iced tea, But I think I actually prefer it hot with some soymilk. It is better than I remember it, so I bumped the rating up a bit today. I think perhaps the reason I like it is that I steeped it for so long earlier today (an hour?) that seems to have brought forth the flavor much better.

Ahhhh….now this is great tea! I’ve been really impressed with the teas I’ve sampled (thanks to *Jaime) from RoT’s Raw Green Bush line.

This tea smells heavenly, sweet coconut water with plantains. It is blended so harmoniously the taste is just like velvet, but lighter. This tastes like a flavored water version of a coconut banana smoothie. I will definitely be buying more of this tea. This is sooooo good!

Cofftea

I’m thinking of having this one w/ my ham and hummus wrap today. Either that or the orange carrot. Help me decide. :)

Meghann M

Orange Carrot…I want to read your review of it and was just checking out RoT’s website to see what was in the Orange Carrot. Must place an order soon. So many places to order from though!

Cofftea

Haha ok, then this one for dessert:)

Meghann M

It would make a great dessert!

amandajo

I am considering buying both of these… they sound so intriguing! I’ve seen them at the local health food store and they are calling my name.

Jaime

amandajo, I can send you a few bags if you want to try them.

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

I love this one..again thanks to Jamie. I am for sure buying this one.

amandajo

Jaime that would be wonderful! Take a look at my cupboard, let me know if there’s anything you would like to try!

Jaime

Woot!! Off to cupboard-stalk, will pm you! Check my cupboard, too, to see if there’s anything else that catches your eye!

AWESOME!

This is really good. The plantain tastes a lot like banana – but not quite… it has a starchier flavor – this is very true to a plantain taste… or at least, true to what I remember a plantain tastes like, it’s been a while! And the coconut is delightful in this blend … a very nice balance of the tropical flavors. The green rooibos is not strongly distinguishable, but I can taste it’s fresh, somewhat fruity, somewhat woodsy, sweet note that it imparts.

This is really good. It would be awesome iced too.

Today is one of those days I am hurting so badly, I am unable to brew some tea.
Thank God for tea bags! It is just that kind of day.
This tea is starting to give a smile to my morning :-)
I have a terrible sinus infection which is giving my chronic pain a run for the money.
Back to this tea, I have previously done a legit tasting note on this tea,
But I just had to say, I REALLY like this tea…
I think I like it more each time I drink it.
Memories…
This tea reminds me of when myself and my late husband were married in Jamaica…
with the traditional wedding breakfast.
This is a sweet morning pick me up.

tigress_al

I hope the day gets better for you!

CelebriTEA

Thank you Tigress…it is already…
I checked my blood sugar and it was 276….WAY HIGH!
When I got my sugar back into normal parameters the pain lessened quite a bit.
The sinus infection made my sugar level high which increased the pain.
Thanks for the kind thoughts and I hope your day is super sweet :-)

TheTeaFairy

Hope you feel better soon, sounds terrible…

Khaleesical

Hope you feel better!

CelebriTEA

Thanks friends…nice to get an encouraging note :-)

The plantain is definitely showcased here! The yummy banana coconut flavor brightened my afternoon. :) First time trying raw green bush, either its subtle or the other flavors are masking it, as I didn’t really detect it.

Edited to add: Thank you Jaime for sending this to me!!

Jaime

I’ve never tried plain raw green bush, either. I plan on doing that sometime.

Kristen

I think I am going to order this one and possibly the Red velvet from Republic of Tea next

amandajo

Oh yeah, I have been eyeing the Red Velvet too!

Jaime

The Red Velvet is sitting on my front porch right now!

Reason to leave work early? Hmm…

Kristen

Ha ha Jaime too bad we don’t know where you live! Please post a tasting note asap…. anxious to read it!!! ;)

Meghann M

Lol, Kristin, couldn’t agree with you more! Jaime, did you leave work early?

Jaime

I plead the fifth!

CelebriTEA

This is yummy.
On the side, you are named as my oldest daughter.
(Funny compliment, she is beautiful~ so I associate your name with beauty)

amandajo

Thanks celebriTEA!

I’m TRYING to be open minded here…
I HATE BANANAS!!!! I mean I HATE Bananas!
BUT…I have had Plantains in a bake that I bought in the freezer section from Kashi and thought that Plantains were ok.

Also…I like Bananas Bread. WEIRD.

So…here goes…

It smells like bananas but the coconut also helps that. Thankfully. It’s a very light colored liquid NOT as bright, vibrant, dark, or richly colored as most Rooibos or Green Rooibos’s even.

THANKFULLY I can taste the coconut more than the Plantain. YAY! I can’t individually or harshly say I can taste the Rooibos above the other ingredients but it contributes to the over all sweetness and even the smoothness of it. It’s unique.

I think if any company would have done this any different I would have not liked it at all. I really think it HAS to have the coconut and the Rooibos in there to accompany the Plantain. RoT gave this one some real thought. I appreciate that! Usually I would NEVER buy something like this blind but because LiberTEAs sent me some I tried and I was surprised! This is alright! Even for someone who HATES Bananas like me!

The more I drink this the more appreciation I have for it. And the more I sip on this the more plantain flavor I am tasting is quite comparable to that of the plantains I have had in that Kashi Microwavable Meal I mentioned above.

Interesting. Surprising. Creative. Innovative. Different.

TeaEqualsBliss

NOTE TO SELF…as this cools beyond the ‘luke warm’ temp it tastes more like bananas and I’m not fond of this cold for that reason…so…as long as I slurp this piping hot it’s alright! :)

SimpliciTEA

I judge you have a talent with describing your own experiences. I consider myself as a writer, and I admire your ability to use words (and white space). They seem to flow effortlessly. I am new to Steepster. It’s renewing for me, and exciting, to encounter writing like yours along with the passion of so many tea enthusiasts on this website!

TeaEqualsBliss

Thanks so much for the words :) Have you checked out Sororitea Sisters yet?

SimpliciTEA

I just checked it out. Interesting. I am not very familiar with blogs, but I do like your sites overall layout. Creative. I hope this is not too forward, but are you willing to explain to me how your site generates income (I wonder the same about Steepster)? There are no ads — which is another thing I like about your site — but you must generate income in some way. I am curious because I am interested in exploring ways of generating income myself, and, because I like to learn about ‘what makes things tick.’

This not-tea has gotten such good reviews here, when I saw it at the grocery store today I had to pick it up. After all, I’m always looking for herbal teas for evenings and I do enjoy coconut. I don’t always have much luck with rooibos, but fingers crossed!

It smells… interesting. Every so often I get a banana Runts smell from it, but when I stick my nose in the cup and sniff, I get creamy, milky, starchy green-ness. The green rooibos smell is obvious (it smells like chamomile to me) but with extra sweetness and fruit.

The taste is actually pretty good. I get a hint of Runts bananas (the only Runts I detest) but it’s balanced by a more natural tasting sweetness from the green rooibos and the coconut creamy sweetness. The Runts-ness goes away as it cools a little, leaving a banana + chamomile flavor that seems very plantain-y to me, plus a smoothness that implies coconut cream. The end result is something light, sweet, and tropical, almost piña colada-y. I could easily see this flavor profile served cold in slushie form and with a little paper umbrella in it.

Which grocery store did you find this?

Auggy

Central Market, which is an upscale HEB basically. Lots of specialty foods. They had a few more in the Raw Green Bush Tea line (series?) but I only picked up this one (this trip).

I like bananas, and I like coconut, so after reading about this tea on Steepster and magically finding it in the grocery store, I had to get it!
I double tea-bagged my cup because I like strong tea. I have a feeling I will be drinking a lot of this – I love the flavors even though I wish it was a little stronger. It reminds me of eating banana chips.

I usually use 2 teabags per cup with the small teabags from RoT. That might help give the added boost of flavor you’re looking for.

Claire

Thanks LiberTEAS! I actually did double bag it, but was using a big mug, at least 14oz capacity maybe 15oz. What size mug do you use with the double tea bag?

I had seen some good recommendations for this tea so I decided to try it. I was unsure of how I would like it as I do not normally drink rooibos teas. I was very pleasantly surprised! I love it! The banana really comes through and taste great! Not artificial like alot of banana teas. I added a small amount of rock sugar and it was a nice sweet cup!

First, “Thank you, Jamie” for sending me this sample along with all the others, you are so generous.

I am so HAPPY I had the chance to try this tea, it is mostly plantain in flavor and slightly coconutty. I absolutely LOVE the raw green roobios tea I think mostly because the flavor of the green versus the red is more in the background. I find that the red is far more in your face. As such that means you really don’t have to over flavor the tea to get a nice balanced flavor. I can’t wait to try the rest of the raw bush teas. This is delicious and I will be buying it. Highly recommended!

By the way I am typing this review while I sip on a Coconut Soy Earl Grey Creme Bubble Tea at Argo Tea in downtown Chicago. Yummy!

LiberTEAS

I prefer green rooibos too… I think it’s lighter and even has a little bit of a fruity quality to it … less of that woody taste.
