From The Tea Girl

A Yunnan black tea combination of rolled pearls. aged tea, and traditional leaf blended with chopped cocoa nibs and chocolate flavours. Roasted notes from the tea paired with sweet chocolate create guilt free indulgence.

Blenders Notes: The best way to pair chocolate flavours is with a dark tea, a class of tea that has undergone microbial fermentation. Fermentation affects the smell of the tea and typically mellows its taste, reducing astringency and bitterness while improving mouth feel and aftertaste. This makes a tea feel creamier and richer – the perfect coupling to chocolate flavours.

Ingredients: black tea, pu-erh tea, cocoa nibs, flavour. (no dairy)

I’m still trying to decide on one last advent for this year, and The Tea Girl is one of the ones in consideration for me so I decided to make a cup of one of the teas I have from there to see if it helped me decide. I think I originally got this one from Sil via VariaTEA, so thank you both! It was a perfectly fine tea. Rich chocolate in a pure play/straight forward kind of way. I appreciated that it wasn’t so much chocolate that I couldn’t taste the tea base, but at the same time the pu’erh had a touch of that “fishy” wet pile funk that didn’t feel fully aired out.

Didn’t really help me decide though.

I still want to try The Tea Girl’s advent sometime! Although I’ll have to have someone forward it to me from Canada ha ha. Maybe next year…

Puerh…my nemesis…I see you in that ingredient list and I fear you. However, that seems unnecessary since I am not getting much puerh flavor. It’s mostly a mediocre chocolate tea. Not bad but not worth fearing the puerh. Thank you Sil for sharing though and the rest is off to Roswell Strange

While i enjoy this one, it’s not my favourite from tea girl. It’s one of those chocolate teas that isn’t quite chocolate..but is STILL tasty :)

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 19

So I am ACTUALLY drinking this tea today, right this moment, as I missed having it within my caffeine window yesterday. I was so pumped up by the DECADENT chocolate smell, I have been looking forward to it!

Now, I always get a bit nervous when there is pu-erh in tea blends. I like good quality pu-erh on it’s own, but in blends it can get a bit fishy. So I did approach this a bit more cautiously when I saw the ingredients. I steeped for 2 and a half mins with boiling water, and wow it still smells very chocolatey!

As for the flavor, wow. This is awesome. I am not normally a huge fan of chocolate teas, as they always have a weird artificial note for me, but I don’t know if it’s the base teas or the flavoring used, this is SO GOOD. The Yunnan base is very present with that sweet potato and sugary aftertaste, and the chocolate flavoring just melds right in there. It’s like eating a dark chocolate with some sugar. This is tasty and totally satisfying my sweet tooth!! Very impressed! One of the best chocolate teas I’ve had in a long time (that is straight chocolate, not mint chocolate, etc.)
