I had a lot of caffeine on Sunday, so I thought it was smart to pepper in at least one herbal blend to break some of that up a bit…
Wasn’t sure what to think of this one as I’ve had sea buckthorn berries before and enjoy that tart, zingy and slightly sour citrus-like flavour but have never had the leaves of the plant on their own before. Obviously they wouldn’t taste identical to the fruit, but I wondered if they would share an qualities.
Overall I wouldn’t say I loved this tisane, but I thought it was pleasant enough. A slightly brighter, more fruity and sour leaning top note but definitely fleeting and followed up by a more expected herbal and straw-like flavour that makes up much of the sip. There’s a slight toastiness that makes me think of different roasted grains, but only slight. Overall I’d call this more woody and hay centric in taste with just that bit of fruitness to break it all up.
