From Trader Nicks Tea Company

Ghostly concoction of black tea, earthy puerh tea, and cocoa. Some connoisseurs may pick up flavor notes of old books, musty cellars, and aged wood.

Tasting Notes: toffee | chocolate | almond | earth

Whenever candlelights flicker and the air is deathly still, that is the time when Ghoulish Delight tea is near! Now we don’t want to frighten you prematurely, but this devilishly delicious tea is just perfect for a swinging wake out by the graveyard. All the happy haunts are enjoying their tea even in the afterlife.

Upon first observation of the tea, you get the unearthly essence of robust almond and sweet caramel; next you get the aged and slightly musty aroma of the dark and mysterious puerh tea. This mix of sweet and earthy flavors is a favorite among all the creepy creeps and silly spooks who have materialized. Out in the graveyard you can find a teapot mysteriously suspended in air pouring our Ghoulish Delight tea, and you can even find a hand grasping a teacup reaching out of the ground in the hope of getting one last cuppa. Treat yourself to a tea that pairs well with a requiem bell; also makes a perfect morning tea and accompanies food well.

Ingredients: Black tea, puerh, rooibos, roasted cocoa shells, caramel bits, brittle pieces, almond slices, cocoa beans, flavor

TTB sample! I taste a mild nutty flavor, but I don’t get much more from this one. I don’t love the puerh base here. It just adds a tang that doesn’t go smoothly with the rest.

Strange VariaTEA TTB #28

I think I would have enjoyed this one a lot more if they had used black tea in the base instead of puerh. It has a nice rich dark chocolate and almond flavor that reminds me of a candy bar. But the slightly funky note of the puerh base is unfortunately making me think of almonds that have gone rancid. I do appreciate how the blend fits the name/theme here; the flavor just missed the mark a bit for me personally.

#SVTTB Round Two – Tea 12/???

There are a couple different blends from Trader Nick’s in the box this time around, but this was the only one I didn’t already own. Man Catchin’ Beignets is one of Trader Nick’s most popular blends so I definitely wanted to try this one since it’s also inspired by The Princess and The Frog, but by the villain of the movie.

Honestly it was just fine as a tea. Solid chocolate and roasted almond flavours with a hint of toffee and the more mineral and chestnut-like notes of the oolong which really compliments the almond and chocolate flavours. My main thing was mostly that I just don’t really love chocolate teas a whole lot personally, so I could appreciate that this was a well balanced rich chocolate blend while also acknowledging that I probably wouldn’t ever really find myself gravitating towards it over some of the other chocolate teas I own already.

And on that point, that was the other big thing for me. As nice as the tea was, I just felt like it was a combination I had tried already so, so many other times…

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 30

Thank you thereaderscup for adding this to the tea box. It was fun to try but alas my hatred of puerh struck again!

Another tea from Gabby (as was the last one, I forgot to mention)!

Now, I’m not a chocolate tea lover. I’m not a chocolate flavoring lover in general, it reminds me of cheap chocolate coins or something and it just tastes weird. But this is quite good for a chocolate tea! The chocolate flavoring is a bit boozy-tasting, as it often is to my palate, and it has a Tootsie Roll edge to it. But I can also taste a bit of caramel and almond, which is a nice complement. I also like the mix of black tea and puerh here (I can’t taste the rooibos), as it gives a smooth, rich yet not overly earthy base.

A nice tea, just not one I would order due to my personal preferences. But I will recommend for people who do like chocolate-flavored teas! And it makes total sense for Halloween as it’s sort of like a candy bar tea.
