I had Della Terra’s The Perfect Pear this morning, and am trying this tea tonight, so it’s just been a pear day. I actually really like pears. My grandmother had a little scraggly pear tree in her yard, and it would grow the smallest, knobbiest pears on it every year, but they were good.

I’m not sure if I’ve had green rooibos before. I feel like I have in some tea, but I can’t remember which one. I’m not a huge fan of red rooibos, so many I will like it’s greener twin a little more. The dry leaves smell like rooibos with a hint of pear. As soon as I poured the boiling water into my little teapot I could smell the sweet aroma of pear. The tea is a clear, dark yellow orange color. The flavor is initially of rooibos, with a fresh pear finish. The little pear flavor that is present is very fresh, like eating an actual pear. There is a slight green rooibos aftertaste, which is less medicinal than a red rooibos but is still noticeable. Adding sweetener brings out more of the sweet pear flavor and covers up some of the rooibos notes. I added a little milk after the sweetener and it smoothed all of the flavors over, leaving just a lot of the juicy pear taste. It also brought out a litlte creaminess, which I couldn’t find at all before adding the milk.

Overall, this is a nice tea, but one I probably wouldn’t purchase. The pear flavor is perfect, but there is a little too much rooibos taste for me, and almost no creaminess. I think that pear is a difficult flavor to bring out in tea, but this one comes very close if you don’t mind rooibos. Thanks to Mercuryhime for sending me a sample of this one!

-Dry blend has small pieces of green rooibos and large pieces of sunflower petals.
-Dry leaves smell like rooibos with a hint of pear. Tea liquor aroma is strongly of sweet pear.
-Tea liquor is a clear dark yellow orange color.
-Rooibos flavor with a fresh pear finish. Green rooibos aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Fair tea. True pear flavor, but rooibos taste is strong. LIttle creaminess.

To me, green kangaroo has much lighter of that typical woodsy aftertaste found in it’s more crimson tinged cousin. So, in a lot of situations, I enjoy it. This one has pear… and creaminess… and the sample was like a dollar!

Upton says to brew this for about 8 minutes. Missy uses a little android app called Tea Tips (I think) to set little individual timers. After what I’m guessing to be about 15 minutes, I realized that the timer wasn’t going to go off ;). So this was a little overbrewed. But you know what, it didn’t seem to hurt anything at all.

The pear on this is a little bit on the sour-candy side of pear. It balances the sweet woodsy kangaroo flavor perfectly though, with just a light touch of the cream at the end to tie it all together (the cream may be a lot stronger when not steeped for seven epochs). This is really quite delightful, and probably one of the best kangaroos I think I’ve ever had. This is totally worth keeping around.

This has been on my shopping list for so long and so I was very happy to see this sad little sample in my first traveling tea box. It was just enough for a cup, stored in a squished up Ziplock bag. I think it was meant to be! This tea brews up a lovely golden cup. It smells like a sweet fruit, something between a pear and an apple. There is also a little bit of a metallic note in the background. I think it’ll likely disappear when it comes time to drinking it, but it’s not terribly pleasant.

Sipping… I taste a sweet, juicy pear. It’s nice because I’m not just getting the flavor, but the texture of the fruit. The sip finishes with the green rooibos base. It’s a very flavorful, but light tea at the same time. There is a little something odd about the general taste of the tea. I’m not sure how to describe it… perhaps the artificial flavor? It’s not bad enough to keep me from drinking, but it’s not really something I want in my tea.

I’m happy to have gotten the chance to try this tea after wanting to for so long, even though it’s not a future purchase for me.

sample sip down, yeah!

I was hoping that I was gonna love this tea, but didn’t. The pear is an interesting sharp flavor but mostly of bartlett pear skin, but also quite floral. There’s a sweetness, but its off that unripe pear skin taste. Lol, kind of reminds me of when I lived in a farming area back in BC and stealing pears off farms as a teenager – that orchard smell.
However I was hoping for a more mellow pear flavor, not tart and sharp. The creamyness is just an after sensation.

Maybe if I played with the steeping times, adding sugar or something but alas, it’s just a sample and I have so much tea, I need to move on.

YUM! This is a fruity, sweet, delicious treat!

The pear flavor is pleasant and sweet – and just a hint of sharpness from the sunflower comes through – just enough to cut through some of the sweetness of the pear. Making this sweet, but not too tremendously sweet.

Oh damnnnn that’s good. I’ve got a runny nose tonight and this is just the tea to get me back up on my feet. Green Rooibos is a new thing for me but I am really enjoying it in general. This reminds me a bit of the epic Adagio grapefruit-flavored tea from Lupicia, similar smooth and tasty base with an interesting fruit flavour on top. sneeze! whew!!!! This tea is really what I need tonight. A nice warmup. Great flavour. I’m pouring a 2nd cup :)

This smells great, but the flavour was just alright for me. It was either just too sweet or I wasn’t in the mood for it or the combination of creaminess and pear isn’t for me. The vanilla is nice as is the pear but I find them a bit weird together. I’m glad to have the sampler but won’t be buying any of this. However, I’ll need to try it again to be sure.

This is like orange-colored apple-flavored jello mix, with just a touch of whipped cream on the end of the sip. Bizarrely good.
I do get the slightly woody after’flavor of rooibos, but it is not bad or strong in this tea.
On an unrelated note, I have finally decided to add all my samples (since I just got two huge mystery boxes) to my cupboard, so my tea collection has “expanded” exponentially in the last few days. Unfortunately, they are but samples, enough for maybe a cup or two, but at least now I have some way to keep them in order!
