My husband goes through iced tea like crazy and lately he has been enjoying cold brewed green teas. He asked for something different this morning, so on a whim I pulled out the genmaicha. I was a bit nervous about how it would turn out cold, but it is really awesome. Buttery, nutty, and smooth with a slight sweetness – I may use the remainder of my genmaicha for iced tea.

This is really good. Nice toasty flavor profile. I can see this becoming my everyday afternoon tea:)

How does it compare to the one from TF?

threewhales

I think it is pretty close.

Hm…I’ll be interested for us to compare this and the one from Den’s. I’ll let you know when I get it in, I haven’t ordered it yet.

This one from Upton is made with Sencha. And, yes I would be interested in comparing it too.

This is my first gen-mai cha (how does one spell this tea? I’ve seen it all sorts of ways!) so I’m not really sure what makes a good one, but I’ll give my opinion nonetheless :)

The tea in the bag was kind of cute. I don’t mean that in a condescending way at all- it just seemed so perky and bright. Yes tea leaves can look perky and bright and cute. Just go with me here :P

As the tea steeped the smell reminded me of sugar smacks cereal (it’s honey smacks now I think?). Once I poured myself a cup, the flavor was a very sharp grass flavor with an undertone of toasty rice. I added just a teeny touch of honey because I thought it would compliment this tea & the flavors transformed. It was grassy and vegetal (I can’t decide- okra… no asparagus… I can’t put my finger on it) but with the addition of the honey it brought out the sweet toasty puffed rice.

It’s very different from other green teas I’ve had, so I think it will take a little getting used to, but I like it a lot and I think it makes a nice uplifting cup to enjoy in the afternoon like I did today (or anytime really!)

Pretty interesting and different Green Tea. Never really had anything like it. I figured it was Brown Rice tea as it looks very different, it actually has puffed rice in it! It looks like you’re making tea with snap, crackle and pop!

Pretty nice and smooth green tea, not overpowering like some other green teas I’ve had. Nice flavour and toasty vibe is pretty cool. Not my absolute favourite thing but I could see stocking a small amount of this in my tea cupboard for once in a while. It’s good in the afternoons.

At first I was excited to order this tea because of he uniqueness of it. Once I had it though, I was sort of upset that I’d ordered 250g of it. I ended up finding out that I don’t really love tea that tastes like Pops cereal…
