From Upton Tea Imports

Also known as Mahagastotte Estate, Lover’s Leap teas have become a favorite of our customers. This lot has the expected bright Ceylon character, with nuances of a Darjeeling tea. Delicate lemony-cedar notes linger in the finish.

Normally I like most things that come out of Upton Tea, so it pains me to say that I thought this was a truly yucky cup of tea.

The tea leaves are extremely broken up, like fannings. I followed the instructions which said to steep for 3 minutes at boiling. The tea liquor is very brisk, bitter and tannic. In short, everything I do not want in a tea! Might try steeping it again at a lower temp., but I truly could not finish the cup.

Sad. Happens, but sad.

At least I didn’t spend a lot of money on it.

There’s the silver lining!

I’ve never tried the BOP version, but I did try Lover’s Leap years ago from another vendor, and didn’t like it.

I was a bit surprised just how broken up the leaf was. I mean, I knew it was broken (BOP), but it looked very close to an almost fanning stage. Regardless, the tea brewed up pretty nicely. This is most definitely a classic Ceylon- bright citrus notes, lively, and slightly tangy.

BOP’s are frequently fine like that …you might be surprised by FOP in that the change of a single character makes a big difference in the size of the leaf
